Samuel Okoye
Samuel Ejikeme Okoye (26 July 1939 – 18 November 2009) was a Nigerian astrophysicist from Amawbia in Anambra State, Nigeria. Okoye was the first black African to obtain a doctorate degree in Radio Astronomy. Early life and education Samuel Okoye was born in Amawbia, in south eastern Nigeria, to Simeon and Agnes Okoye. He was the fifth of nine children. Simeon died late in 1949 when Sam was ten years. He was raised by his mother and his eldest brother. Okoye obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc), First Class Honours in Physics from the University of London and a doctorate degree (PhD) in Radio Astronomy from Churchill College, University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, making him the first black African to obtain a doctorate in Radio Astronomy. Amobi Okoye (born June 10, 1987) is a Nigerian-born former American football defensive tackle. He played college football at Louisville and was drafted by the Houston Texans tenth overall in the 2007 NFL Draft, the youngest player in NFL history to be drafted in the first round at 19. Stanley Onyekachukwu Okoye (born April 10, 1991) is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player for Scafati Basket of the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). A 6'6" swingman, he was named the 2012–13 Big South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year while playing for Virginia Military Institute (VMI). Ebele Okoye (born 6 October 1969, Onitsha, Anambra State) is a Nigerian-American painter and animator based in Cologne, Germany since 2000. Godfrey Mary Paul Okoye, C.S.Sp. (19 December 1913 – 17 March 1977) was a bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Nigeria. He was the first Bishop of Port Harcourt, serving from 3 September 1961 to 7 March 1970.
