Oissel
Oissel () is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department in the Normandy region in northern France. Geography A suburban and light industrial town situated by the banks of the river Seine, just south of Rouen at the junction of the D18 and the D13 roads. Junction 22 of the A13 autoroute is entirely within the commune's borders. SNCF operates a TER rail service here. History The area around Oissel were a common place for Viking raiders because of its location on the Seine river, during their raids on Francia. Eventually, the Vikings settled on one of the islands near Oissel and made it into a base, calling the island "Thorhólmr" meaning "Thor's Island". During the battle of France, 9 June 1940, the French blew up several bridges and crossings over the Seine river around Oissel to halt the German advance, including Viaduc de Oissel and Pont de Tourville-la-Rivière. CMS Oissel
Club Municipal Sportif d'Oissel is a French sports club founded in 1968. The club is based in Oissel, Seine-Maritime and have teams for basketball, handball and association football. As of the 2020–21 season, their football team plays in the Championnat National 3. Their home stadium is the Stade Marcel Billard in the town, which has a capacity of 4,000 spectators. A13 Autoroute
Autoroute 13, or ''L'Autoroute de Normandie'' links Paris to Caen, Calvados. The motorway starts in Paris at the Porte d'Auteuil, a former gate of the Paris walls, and ends at Mondeville's Mondeville 2 (Porte de Paris) exchange junction on the Boulevard Périphérique (Caen). Raoul Grimoin-Sanson
Raoul Grimoin-Sanson (1860–1941) was an inventor in the field of early cinema. He was born in Elbeuf, as Raoul Grimoin; he added the surname Sanson later. He had an early interest in stage magic as well as photography. In the 1890s, Grimoin-Sanson began experiments in moving pictures, and desired to project films, like those from Thomas Edison's kinetoscope, on screen. In 1896, he invented a crude camera/projector combination called the Phototachygraphe. In 1897, he patented the Cinéorama, a panoramic film projection system involving ten synchronized projectors. The Cinéorama was demonstrated at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, but problems with heat from the projectors caused it to be shut down.
