The Official Military Personnel File (OMPF), known as a 201 File in the U.S. Army, is an Armed Forces administrative record containing information about a service member's history, such as: * Promotion Orders * Mobilization Orders DA1059s – Service School Academic Evaluation Reports* MOS Orders * Awards and decorations * Transcripts SGLV 8286 – Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance Election and Certificate * NCOERs and OERs (Evaluation Documents) * DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty Contents The OMPF is an important document for service members to maintain, as the documents it contains are important for access to benefits such as the VA loan and the G.I. Mobilization
Mobilization (alternatively spelled as mobilisation) is the act of assembling and readying military troops and supplies for war. The word ''mobilization'' was first used in a military context in the 1850s to describe the preparation of the Prussian Army. Mobilization theories and tactics have continuously changed since then. The opposite of mobilization is demobilization. Mobilization institutionalized the Levée en masse (engl. ''mass levy of conscripts'') that was first introduced during the French Revolution. It became an issue with the introduction of conscription, and the introduction of the railways in the 19th century. United States Military Occupation Code
A United States military occupation code, or a military occupational specialty code (MOS code), is a nine-character code used in the United States Army and United States Marine Corps to identify a specific job. In the United States Air Force, a system of Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSC) is used. In the United States Navy, a system of naval ratings and designators are used along with the Navy Enlisted Classification (NEC) system. A system of ratings is also used in the United States Coast Guard. Since an individual can obtain multiple job specialties, a duty military occupational specialty (DMOS) is used to identify what their primary job function is at any given time. An individual must complete and pass all required training for their military occupational specialty qualification (MOSQ).
