Erwin Lindner
Erwin Lindner (7 April 1888 – 30 November 1988) was a German entomologist mainly interested in Diptera. He was born in Böglins, Memmingen, and died in Stuttgart, at age 100 years. In 1913, Erwin Lindner joined the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart and was head of the Department of Entomology there until 1953. He edited ''Die Fliegen der paläarktischen Region'' (the Flies of the Palaearctic Region), a twelve-volume seminal work on the systematics and anatomy of the flies of the Palearctic realm. The Platystomatidae (signal flies) are a distinctive family of Fly, flies (Diptera) in the superfamily Tephritoidea. Signal flies are worldwide in distribution, found in all the biogeographic realms, but predominantly in the tropics. It is one of several families of Acalyptratae, acalyptrate Diptera with over 1000 species, comprising around 1200 species in 127 genus, genera. Biology Adults are found on tree trunks and foliage and are attracted to flowers, decaying fruit, excrement, sweat, and decomposing snails. Larvae are found on fresh and decaying vegetation, carrion, human corpses, and root nodules, particularly in the genus ''Rivellia'', which has economic implications for legume crops. Heinrich Frey
Heinrich Frey (June 15, 1822 – January 17, 1890) was a German-born Swiss entomologist who studied Lepidoptera. Biography Heinrich Frey was born on June 15, 1822 in Frankfurt. He attended the gymnasium in Frankfurt until he was 16. Here he met Senator Carl Heinrich Georg von Heyden (1793–1866) who introduced him to entomology. He attended the University in Frankfurt, then travelled to Bonn, Berlin, and Göttingen. When he returned to Frankfurt am Main in 1839 von Heyden showed him Philipp Christoph Zeller's ''Attempt at a Classification of the Tineinae'' which had just appeared in Oken's ''Isis''. Until this publication, this group of moths had been hopelessly confused and Frey was impressed by Zeller's orderly arrangement.
