Odessa Border Detachment
The Odesa Border Detachment (2138) is a brigade level detachment of the Southern Department of the State Border Service of Ukraine. The detachment guards the Ukrainian coast along the Odesa Oblast and Mykolaiv Oblast, a total length of 480 km as well as several seaports, airports, riverine ports, ferry stations and railway stations. History On 1 July 1921, the 5th Border Battalion was expanded and became the 26th Ochakiv Border Detachment in Ochakiv and transferred to Odesa in 1925. On 25 July 1941, it became the 26th Combined Border Regiment of the NKVD as the 1st and 2nd Commandants of the Black Sea Border District were merged into.it and 211 command and political, non-commissioned officers and privates were called up from the reserve. Separate Coastal Army
The Separate Coastal Army (), also translated to English as Independent Coastal Army, was an army-level unit in the Red Army that fought in World War II. It was established on July 18, 1941, by the order of the Southern Front from the forces of 9th Army’s Coastal Group and was stood up on July 20, 1941. 1st formation Odessa At the beginning of the war the Soviet 9th Army was engaged in heavy fighting along the southern front of the Axis invasion of Southern Russia, retreating towards Odessa. Black Sea Shipyard
The Black Sea Shipyard (; ) was a shipbuilding facility in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, on the southern tip of the Mykolaiv peninsula. It was founded in 1895 by Belgian interests and began building warships in 1901. At the beginning of World War I in 1914, it was one of the largest industrial facilities in the Russian Empire. The shipyard was moribund in the first decades of the Soviet Union until the Soviets began building up their fleet in the 1930s and it began building surface warships as well as submarines. The yard was badly damaged during World War II and took several years to be rebuilt. Surface warship construction temporarily ended in the mid-1950s before being revived in the mid-1960s and submarines were last built in the yard in late 1950s. The Port of Odesa or Odesa Commercial Seaport (), located near Odesa, is the largest Ukrainian seaport and one of the largest ports in the Black Sea basin, with a total annual traffic capacity of 40 million tonnes (15 million tonnes dry bulk and 25 million tonnes liquid bulk), the only port of Ukraine capable of accepting Panamax class vessels. The port has an immediate access to railways allowing quick transfer of cargo from sea routes to ground transportation. Mykolaiv International Airport, also known as Nikolaev Airport (, ) is an airport in Mykolaiv, southern Ukraine. The Class B airport has a modern runway ready to receive aircraft with landing weight up to and to hold eight Il-76 aircraft equipped with lighting, radio and navigation equipment.
