Odenwald Railway (Hesse)
The Odenwald Railway (german: Odenwaldbahn) is a mainly single-tracked main line from Darmstadt and Hanau to Eberbach on the River Neckar, which crosses the Odenwald mountains in the German states of Hesse and Baden-Württemberg. Since 1882 the route has been operated throughout as a standard gauge line and since 2005 has been worked by diesel multiples owned by the VIAS private railway company. The line is timetable no. KBS 641. To distinguish it from the Odenwald Railway in Baden from Heidelberg to Würzburg it is also known as the Hessian Odenwald Railway (''Hessische Odenwaldbahn'') and occasionally as the Mümling Railway (''Mümlingbahn''), because it follows the valley of the same name from Beerfelden Hetzbach to Höchst im Odenwald. Babenhausen () is a town in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, in Hesse, Germany. Geography It is situated on the river Gersprenz, 25 km southeast of Frankfurt, and 14 km west of Aschaffenburg. South of its general borders, the mountain range of the Odenwald is situated about 15 km away. The landscape is rather flat due to the landscape forming process of the Gersprenz and other small rivers. Groß-Umstadt is a town in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in the Bundesland (federal state) of Hesse in Germany. Groß-Umstadt Wiebelsbach Station
Groß-Umstadt Wiebelsbach station is a station on the Odenwald Railway (german: Odenwaldbahn) in the town of Groß-Umstadt in the German state of Hesse. The station is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. The Odenwald Railway running from Eberbach branches at the station towards Darmstadt and Hanau. Aschaffenburg–Höchst (Odenwald) Railway
The Aschaffenburg−Höchst (Odenwald) railway was a single-tracked, Bavarian branch line in southern Germany, running from Aschaffenburg to the Odenwald railway at Höchst im Odenwald. Because the railway ran through the Bachgau, it was also known as the ''Bachgaubahn'' ("Bachgau railway"). History The 30 kilometre long railway was built under the terms of the ''Lokalbahn'' law of 12 July 1906 and a state treaty between the Kingdom of Bavaria and the Grand Duchy of Hesse. On 1 May 1911 the first section between Aschaffenburg-Süd und Großostheim was taken into service; 18 months later, on 1 December 1912, the rest of the line to Höchst was opened. In 1973 the Minister for Transport authorised the closure of the line as part of the package of savings measures proposed by the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Erbach (Odenw) Station
Erbach () is a town and the district seat of the Odenwaldkreis (district) in Hesse, Germany. It has a population of around 13,000. Geography Location The town lies in the ''Mittelgebirge'' Odenwald at elevations between 200 and 560 m in the valley of the Mümling. One geological peculiarity is the creek Erdbach's complete disappearance within Dorf-Erbach's community area. The Erdbach reappears near Stockheim.
