Caesar Augustus (born Gaius Octavius; 23 September 63 BC – 19 August AD 14), also known as Octavian, was the first Roman emperor; he reigned from 27 BC until his death in AD 14. He is known for being the founder of the Roman Principate, which is the first phase of the Roman Empire, and Augustus is considered one of the greatest leaders in human history. Octavian Goga
Octavian Goga (; 1 April 1881 – 7 May 1938) was a Romanian politician, poet, playwright, journalist, and translator. Life and politics Goga was born in Rășinari, near Sibiu. Goga was an active member in the Romanian nationalistic movement in Transylvania and of its leading group, the Romanian National Party (PNR) in Austro-Hungary. Before World War I, Goga was arrested by the Hungarian authorities. At various intervals before the union of Transylvania with Romania in 1918, Goga took refuge in Romania, becoming active in literary and political circles. Because of his political activity in Romania, the Hungarian state sentenced him to death ''in absentia''. During World War I, he joined the Romanian Army and took part as a soldier in the Dobruja campaign. Octavian Codru Tăslăuanu (February 1, 1876 – October 22, 1942) was an Austro-Hungarian-born Romanian magazine publisher, non-fiction writer, and politician. Biography Background and early life Born in Bélbor, Maros-Torda County, now Bilbor, Harghita County, his parents were Ion, a Greek-Catholic priest and member of a clerical family; and Anisia (''née'' Stan), a local peasant woman. The upper MureÈ™ region, centered at TopliÈ›a, had been part of Moldavia before being annexed by the Habsburg monarchy in 1775, and Ion would remind his son that the family was of Moldavian origin. The family name refers to the valley of the Tazlău River, where it lived prior to arriving in the TopliÈ›a area. Octavian or Octav Smigelschi (last name also Smigelski, Smighelschi, Szmigelszki, or Szmigelschi; hu, Szmigelszki Oktáv; 21 March 1866 – 10 November 1912) was an Austro-Hungarian painter and printmaker, one of the leading culturally Romanian artists in his native Transylvania. Of mixed Polish, Aromanian, and possibly Ruthenian, background, he identified mainly with the Romanian-speaking Greek-Catholics, although some of his most important work was also done for the rival Romanian Orthodox Church. Smigelschi studied under Bertalan Székely at the Drawing School and Art Teachers' College in Budapest, becoming familiar with the historicist trend in contemporary Hungarian art. Octavian Popescu (born 25 April 1938) is a Romanian former footballer and coach known in Germany and Turkey as Popi or Pope. Popescu is a former DFB coach from Sports University in Cologne. He is one of the founders of the IFTA International Footballtennis Association. Career Born in Bucharest, Popescu started playing football for FC Rapid BucureÈ™ti. He joined ÅžtiinÅ£a Cluj before moving to FC Dinamo BucureÈ™ti, where he would win three consecutive Romanian league championships with the club from 1963 to 1965. Octavian Paler ( or ; July 2, 1926 – May 7, 2007) was a Romanian writer, journalist, politician in Communist Romania, and civil society activist in post-1989 Romania. Biography Octavian Paler was born in Lisa, BraÈ™ov County. He was educated at Spiru Haret High School in Bucharest. In the summer of 1944, just one week before graduating the 7th grade, he was forced to leave the school because of an argument with his uncle and Spiru Haret's school head master – George Șerban. Octavian Paler moved on to Radu Negru High School in FăgăraÈ™, where he studied literature for his final examination. He graduated in 1945 with magna cum laude and outstanding results in philosophy, Latin and Greek. He sat the final examination in Sibiu in the same year.
