Oceán (Czech Band)
Oceán is a Czech musical group first active between the years 1985-1993, and again since reforming in 2011. The band's best-known incarnation consisted of Petr Muk on vocals, Petr Kučera on keyboards, Jan Vozáry on drums, and Dušan Vozáry on second keyboards. The band underwent a few personnel changes during their early period in the 1980s, and broke up in 1993. They returned in 2011 with a new lineup consisting of Jitka Charvátová (vocals), Petr Kučera (keyboards), Jan Vozáry (drums), and Petr Hons (guitars). The band plays synth-pop and new wave music, and was originally influenced by the British duo Erasure and the band Depeche Mode. History Oceán was founded in August 1985. České Budějovice (; ) is a city in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 97,000 inhabitants. Opus Records
Opus was a major Czechoslovak state-owned record label and music publishing house based in Bratislava, now known as Opus a.s.. Background Opus was founded in 1971 and spun off as the Slovak division of music label Supraphon. As such, it was the first Slovak record label. It was privatized in 1990 and purchased by Forza Music s.r.o. in 2005. When Warner Music Group acquired Forza in 2019, they expected to revive the Opus label for pop, rock, and children's music. The label is active to this day and operates under the name Opus a.s. In addition to Slovak, and later Czech, artists and bands, the label also published works by foreign artists from countries including Poland, Hungary, East Germany, Yugoslavia, and Greece. Supraphon
Supraphon Music Publishing is a Czech record label, oriented mainly towards publishing classical music and popular music, with an emphasis on Czech and Slovak composers. History The Supraphon name was first registered as a trademark in 1932. The name was used for the label of domestic albums produced for export by Ultraphon company. After World War II, Ultraphon was nationalized and its name changed to ''Gramofonové závody''. In 1961, the name was changed to ''Gramofonové závody – Supraphon'' and later simplified to ''Supraphon'' in 1969. In Czechoslovakia, Supraphon was one of the three major state-owned labels, the other two being Panton and Opus. By January 2013, Supraphon was the official Czech distributor for the Warner Music Group. The Czech branch of Warner Music revived after the company acquired EMI Czech Republic. Shalom (band)
Shalom was a Czech synth-pop band active from 1992 until 1994. The core of the project consisted of Petr Muk and Petr Kučera, with consistent support from Petr Hons, three musicians who were until 1993 also active in the popular Erasure-influenced band Oceán from České Budějovice. The trio was complemented by a number of rotating female vocalists including Jana Benetová, Jana Feriová, Jana Badurová, and later Jana Petrová, Linda Finková, Michaela Klímková, and Olina Mašková. Shalom released two studio albums and a number of hit singles before breaking up in 1994. Petr Muk
Petr Muk (4 February 1965 – 24 May 2010) was a Czech pop musician, composer, and performer, famous in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Muk began playing music at the age of fifteen, performing with various underground punk bands including Dural and Gas, together with classmate and later bandmate Petr Kučera. From 1985 until 1993, he led the Czech synth-pop group Oceán, after which he founded the synth-pop group Shalom (1992–1996). Both these ensembles were heavily influenced by the English synth-pop duo Erasure, a band whose UK tour Oceán had supported between 1989 and 1990. In 2004, Muk released a tribute EP to his idols. Erasure (duo)
Erasure ( ) are an English synth-pop duo formed in London in 1985, consisting of lead vocalist and songwriter Andy Bell (singer), Andy Bell and songwriter, producer and keyboardist Vince Clarke, previously co-founder of the band Depeche Mode and a member of synth-pop duo Yazoo (band), Yazoo. From their fourth single, "Sometimes (Erasure song), Sometimes" (1986), Erasure established themselves on the UK Singles Chart, becoming one of the most successful acts of the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. Depeche Mode are an English electronic music, electronic band formed in Basildon, Essex in 1980. Originally formed with the line-up of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher (musician), Andy Fletcher and Vince Clarke, the band currently consists of Gahan and Gore. Wallenstein Palace
Waldstein Palace () is a Baroque palace in Malá Strana, Prague, that served as a residence for Holy Roman Empire, Imperial Generalissimo Albrecht von Waldstein and now houses the Senate of the Czech Republic. History The original Palace was built in years 1623-1630 by Albrecht von Wallenstein, Duke of Mecklenburg (1583-1634), who made his name and fortune as the Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial forces in the Thirty Years War. Emperor Ferdinand II feared Albrecht von Wallenstein's calculating mind and had him assassinated in 1634 in the town of Eger (now Cheb). He lived in the palace for only a year before his death. His widow sold it to his nephew and it remained in the Wallenstein family until 1945.
