Ocean Wilsons (Holdings) Limited is an investment holding company based in Hamilton, Bermuda. It is the course of disposing of its maritime services business based in Brazil. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and became a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index in April 2025. History The company was formed, in 1907, by the merger of the Ocean Coal Company, which operated eight coal mines in Wales, and Wilson, Sons, which operated as a global shipping business. The Ocean Coal Company had been founded by David Davies in the 1880s, while Wilson, Sons had been established in Salvador by two Scottish brothers, Edward and Fleetwood Pellew Wilson in 1837. The intention was to use the ships to transport the coal from Barry Docks in South Wales to destinations around the world. Treharris
Treharris is a small town and community (and electoral ward) in the Taff Bargoed Valley in the south of Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, South Wales. It is located about west of Trelewis, from which it is separated by the Taff Bargoed river, and from Nelson in Caerphilly county borough and has a population of 6,356 from the 2011 Census. As a community, Treharris includes the villages of Quakers Yard and Edwardsville. Mercedes () was a brand originally created by the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) and used for first time in the 35 hp model released by the company in 1901. DMG began to develop in 1900, after the death of its co-founder, Gottlieb Daimler. Although the name was not lodged as a trade name until 23 June 1902 and not registered legally until 26 September, the brand name eventually would be applied to an automobile model built by Wilhelm Maybach to specifications by Emil Jellinek. Deep Navigation Colliery
Deep Navigation Colliery was a coal mine in South Wales, that operated from 1872 until 1991. Located next to the co-developed village of Treharris in the borough of Merthyr Tydfil, on development it was the deepest coalmine in South Wales Coalfield by some . Producing the highest quality steam coal, it powered both the Cunard passenger steamers RMS ''Mauretania'' and RMS ''Lusitania'' in their successful attempts at the Blue Riband prize for the most rapid Atlantic Ocean passage. The mine is also thought to have been one of several locally that provided coal to the RMS Titanic; tests carried out on coal found in the ship's wreck have shown that most of the coal on board originated in South Wales. Barry Docks
Barry Docks () is a port facility in the town of Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, a few miles southwest of Cardiff on the north shore of the Bristol Channel. The docks were opened in 1889 by David Davies and John Cory as an alternative to the congested and expensive Cardiff Docks to ship coal carried by rail from the South Wales Coalfield. The principal engineer was John Wolfe Barry, assisted by Thomas Forster Brown and Henry Marc Brunel, son of the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The docks occupy the former sound between Barry Island and the mainland. The contractors built dams to connect each end of the island to the mainland, drained or pumped the water from the site and excavated it.
