Ocean Way Recording was a series of recording studios established by recording engineer and producer Allen Sides with locations in Los Angeles, Nashville, and Saint Barthélemy. Ocean Way Recording no longer operates recording facilities, but Ocean Way Nashville continues to operate under the ownership of Belmont University. History Background In 1972, Ocean Way founder Allen Sides opened a studio he had built in a 3 1/2-car garage on Ocean Way in Santa Monica, California, for the purpose of demonstrating tri-amplified loudspeakers of his own design. In 1977, Sides, who had worked as a runner at United Western Recorders in the late 1960s, purchased enough equipment from Bill Putnam's company UREI to completely fill the garage space for just $6,000, attracting the attention of Putnam. Belmont University is a Private university, private Christian university in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Steven Miller (born November 8, 1956, in New Jersey) is an American record producer and executive. He is best known for his association with Windham Hill Records, where his ambient sound helped create notable instrumental recordings such as Michael Hedges’ '' Aerial Boundaries'', Mark Isham’s '' Vapor Drawings'' and George Winston’s ''December''. As a guitarist and keyboardist, Miller released a recording of his own compositions, ''Singing Whale Songs in a Low Voice'' (on his Hip Pocket/ Windham Hill Jazz imprint) which featured Isham and pianist Art Lande. Sherman Oaks (founded in 1927) is a neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles, California within the San Fernando Valley region.
