Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC) is the only Public university#Philippines, state college in the province of Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. Its main campus is located in the municipality of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, San Jose. OMSC began as a barangay high school founded in 1966 and is now a full-fledged state college with six campuses catering to more than eight thousand students of the province and nearby municipalities. Maria Amelita "Girlie" A. Calimbas-Villarosa was a Filipino politician who was a representative of Occidental Mindoro in the House of Representatives. Political career Maria Amelita Villarosa, known by her nickname Girlie, was first elected as representative of Occidental Mindoro's lone district in the House of Representatives in 1998 for the 11th Congress. However she lost the seat, after Ricardo Quintos won an election protest against her on August 29, 2000. Lourdes Quisumbing (February 13, 1921 – October 14, 2017) served as the Philippines' Secretary of Education, Culture, and Sports from 1986 to 1989, under the presidency of Corazon Aquino. Pedro Orata
Pedro Tamesis Orata (27 February 1899 – 13 July 1989) was a Filipino educator known as the ''Father of Barrio High Schools.'' He is also the founder of the Urdaneta Community College (now Urdaneta City University), the country's first community college, and a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1971. Early life and education Orata was born on February 27, 1899, in Barrio Bactad, Urdaneta, Pangasinan to Candido Orata and Numeriana Tamesis. In 1920, he finished his high school studies in Lingayen as the class valedictorian and, through his sister Victoriana's savings, went to the United States to pursue higher education.
