OFC Futsal Nations Cup
The OFC Futsal Championship is the main national futsal competition of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) nations. It was first held in 1992. The competition was initially held every four years. From 2008 onwards, however, it became an annual tournament. Australia won every edition of the competition until it left the Oceania Football Confederation in 2006. Solomon Islands have won the three editions of the tournament which have taken place since then - including a decisive 8-1 victory over Fiji in the final of the 2009 edition. It is a qualification for the FIFA Futsal World Cup. The original name was the OFC Futsal Championship, from 2019, the tournament will be known as the OFC Futsal Nations Cup. Oceania Football Confederation
The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. The OFC has little influence in the wider football world, either in terms of international competition or as a source of players for high-profile club competitions. 2008 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2008 OFC Futsal Championship was the fifth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place in Suva, Fiji from 8 June to 14 June 2008. The tournament also acted as a qualifying tournament for the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil. The Solomon Islands won the tournament, and qualified for the World Cup. This was the first OFC Futsal Championship tournament not to include Australia as they left the OFC to join the Asian Football Confederation in 2006. The 2014 OFC Futsal Championship, also known as the OFC Futsal Championship Invitational 2014, was the tenth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region, organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). In association football, a penalty shoot-out (previously known as kicks from the penalty mark) is a tie-breaking method to determine which team is awarded victory in a match that cannot end in a tie (draw), draw, when the score is tied after the normal time as well as Overtime (sports)#Association football, extra time (if used) has expired. For example, in a FIFA World Cup, penalties are used in elimination matches; the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, and the final (competition), final. Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament and replays are not allowed. 2011 Oceanian Futsal Championship
The 2011 Oceanian Futsal Championship (OFC) was the eighth edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region. It took place from 16 May to 20 May 2011, and was hosted by Fiji, which had also hosted three previous editions. The number of participating nations rose to eight, up from seven in 2010, as Kiribati made their first ever appearance at the OFC Futsal Championship. The defending champions, the Solomon Islands, retained their title, defeating Tahiti by six goals to four in the final. The tournament's Golden Ball (Player of the tournament) award went to Elliot Ragomo of the Solomon Islands, who also won Golden Boot award for the highest number of goals scored in the tournament. The 2010 OFC Futsal Championship was the seventh edition of the main international futsal tournament of the Oceanian region.
