O. Raymond Knight
Oscar Raymond Knight (8 April 1872 – 7 February 1947) was a gold and silver miner, cattle rancher, large scale farmer, bank executive, industrialist, railroad executive, rodeo producer, rodeo stock contractor and rodeo champion. He was one of the Canadian Cattle Barons and considered one of the wealthiest cattlemen in the world. He went by his middle name of Raymond and was known by most informally as Ray. The first son and second child of six children of Utah mining magnate Jesse Knight and his wife Amanda McEwan, Ray Knight was born in Payson, Utah, Payson, Utah Territory and raised there on the family ranch as well as at their winter home in Provo. Payson is a city in Utah County, Utah, United States. It is part of the Provo– Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 21,101 at the 2020 census. History Pioneers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led by James Edward Pace Jr. first settled what is now Payson, Utah. On Sunday, October 20, 1850, Pace with his family and the families of John Courtland Searle and Andrew Jackson Stewart, totaling 16 settlers in all, arrived at their destination on Peteetneet Creek. Steer Roping
Steer roping, also known as steer tripping or steer jerking, is a rodeo event that features a Cattle#Terminology, steer and one mounted cowboy. Technique The steer roper starts behind a "barrier" - a taut rope fastened with an easily broken string which is fastened lightly to the steer. When the roper calls for the steer, the chute man trips a lever, opening the doors. The steer breaks out running. When the steer reaches the end of the tether, the string breaks, releasing the barrier for the horse and roper. Should the roper break the barrier, a 10-second penalty is added to his time. The roper must throw his rope in a loop around the steer's horns. Once the rope is around the steer's horns, a right-handed roper throws the slack of the rope over the steer's right hip and then turns his horse to the left; when the rope comes tight, it pulls on the steer's hip up and turns the steer's head around, tripping or unbalancing the steer so that it falls.
