''Nyaaringu'' is the debut studio album by Australian singer and songwriter Miiesha, released digitally on 29 May 2020. Following its physical release in August 2020, the album peaked at number 28 on the ARIA charts. Speaking about the album, Miiesha said "''Nyaaringu'' is a collection of stories that I feel I wanted to tell or that I needed to speak on. For me it represents my journey and where I'm at now coming from Woorabinda. The interludes in the collection are recordings of my Grandmother speaking. For me she was and always will stay with me as the strongest voice in my life, so I felt she had to be a part of this with me." ''Nyaaringu'' is a phrase meaning "what happened" in the Pitjantjatjara language. At the National Indigenous Music Awards 2020, the album was nominated for Album of the Year. Miiesha
Miiesha is an Australian singer-songwriter from the Aboriginal community of Woorabinda, Queensland. She was the recipient of New Talent of the Year at the 2020 National Indigenous Music Awards and won the ARIA Award for Best Soul/R&B Release at the 2020 ARIA Music Awards. Early life and education Miiesha is an Aṉangu/ Torres Strait Islander woman, and has been singing for her community since the age of 8 and has since been developing her songwriting as a teenager. Miiesha is inspired by the sounds of RnB, gospel and soul, and the power of spoken word poetry. Career 2019–2020: ''Nyaaringu'' Miiesha made her debut single "Black Privilege" in June 2019. 2020 ARIA Music Awards
The 2020 ARIA Music Awards are the 34th Annual Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAs) and consist of a series of awards, including the 2020 ARIA Artisan Awards, ARIA Hall of Fame Awards, ARIA Fine Arts Awards and the ARIA Awards. The ARIA Awards ceremony occurred on 25 November 2020, with Delta Goodrem as host. However, due to COVID-safe restrictions, it was without an audience and was broadcast from the Star Event Centre, Sydney on the Nine Network around Australia. "Twisting Words" is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Miiesha, released independently on 27 February 2020 as the third single from her debut studio album, ''Nyaaringu'' (2020). According to Young, the song discusses themes of words being twisted to mean something different. She describes the song as her favourite to perform live. ARIA Award For Best Soul/R&B Release
The ARIA Music Award for Best Soul/R&B Release, is an award presented at the annual ARIA Music Awards, which recognises "the many achievements of Aussie artists across all music genres", since 1987. It is handed out by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), an organisation whose aim is "to advance the interests of the Australian record industry." A previous category, Best Urban Album, was split into Best Soul/R&B Release and Best Hip Hop Release, which were first presented in 2019. To be eligible, the work must be within the RnB, soul, funk, reggae or dancehall genres. A phonograph record (also known as a gramophone record, especially in British English), or simply a record, is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove.
