Nuzlocke
The Nuzlocke challenge is a self-imposed fan-made gameplay formula designed to make video games in the Pokémon (video game series), ''Pokémon'' series more difficult. Players using the Nuzlocke challenge are unable to use their Pokémon again if they are knocked out in combat once and can only add the first Pokémon they encounter in a select area to their team. The Nuzlocke challenge was created by Nick Franco when he was a student at the University of California, Santa Cruz. While procrastinating on an assignment, Franco decided to play Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, ''Pokémon Ruby'' with a harder ruleset to make it more interesting. He created a webcomic based on the playthrough, dubbed ''Pokémon: Hard-Mode.'' A recurring Nuzleaf character, who resembled ''Lost (TV series), Lost'' character John Locke (Lost), John Locke, resulted in the Nuzlocke challenge's name, being a portmanteau of Nuzleaf and Locke. Kaizo
is a philosophy of Video game design, game design, specifically platform game, platforming games, distinguished by a high degree of strictness placed upon the player's intended actions and movements through a level. This emphasis on precision, which manifests in the form of extremely-precise character movement (often enforced through subterfuge and purposefully hidden traps), requires the player to use high levels of skill and knowledge of the game's physics and Game engine, engine in order to accomplish tasks. The philosophy is most closely associated with ROM hacks of ''Super Mario World'' and with custom levels created in ''Super Mario Maker ''and'' Super Mario Maker 2'', but has been cited as an influence in other fan-made and original game designs. The term originally came from the Japanese ROM-hacking scene, where ''kaizo'' was used as a general term for all modified games.
