Nuovomondo
''Golden Door'' (, literally "new world") is a 2006 drama film based on a family's migration from Italy to New York City, U.S.A. at the beginning of the 20th century. The film, written and directed by Emanuele Crialese, opens on location in Sicily and concludes in the United States. (The Ellis Island sequences were shot at a studio in Rome and Buenos Aires, Argentina.) Vincent Schiavelli, whose character was originally planned to play a major part, died during the filming, forcing his role to become a supporting character. The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 8, 2006, to critical praise and received seven nominations (with six wins) at the festival. Emanuele Crialese
Emanuele Crialese (; born 27 May 1965) is an Italian screenwriter and film director. He is a native of Rome and studied filmmaking in New York City. Early life Emanuele Crialese was born on 26 July 1965 in Rome to Sicilian parents. He studied filmmaking at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, from where he graduated in 1995. During this time he made several short films including '' Heartless'' (1994). His first feature film, '' Once We Were Strangers'' (1997), was an Italian-American co-production, funded by a producer who had noticed Crialese during his apprenticeship in the United States. Vincenzo Amato (born 30 March 1966) is an Italian actor and sculptor. Life and career Born in Palermo as the son of the stage director and folk musician Emma Muzzi Loffredo, after high school Amato moved to Rome, where his mother lived.
