Nundle Shire was a local government area in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. Nundle Shire was proclaimed on 7 March 1906, one of 134 shires created after the passing of the '' Local Government (Shires) Act 1905''. The shire office was in Nundle. Other towns in the shire included Woolomin. New England (New South Wales)
New England is a vaguely defined region in the north of the state of New South Wales, Australia, about 60 km inland from the Tasman Sea. The area includes the Northern Tablelands (or New England Tablelands) and the North West Slopes regions. Nundle
Nundle is a village in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. It was formerly the centre of Nundle Shire, but most of this area, including the village of Nundle, was absorbed into Tamworth Regional Council in 2004. The village is 400 km north of Sydney and about 56 km south east of Tamworth past Chaffey Dam via a good sealed road. In the Nundle had a population of 289. Nundle is located at the southern end of Fossickers Way. History Nundle was established at the foot of the Great Dividing Range when gold was discovered at "The Hanging Rock" and nearby Swamp Creek in 1852. By June 1852 there were 300 diggers on the fields at Oakenville Creek. Prospectors from California, Europe and China were also digging along the Peel River and up the mountain slopes. Local Government (Shires) Act 1905 was a landmark New South Wales statute notable for the compulsory incorporation of local government areas for around 40% of the area of New South Wales. The Act created 134 rural shires, many surrounding a small urban area separately and voluntarily incorporated under the '' Municipalities Act 1858'' and the following ''Municipalities Act 1867'' and '' Municipalities Act 1897'' As well as the compulsory incorporation of rural areas, the ''Local Government (Shires) Act'' repealed the ''Municipalities Act'' - bringing local government under one legislative framework. Parry Shire
Parry Shire is a former local government area in New South Wales, Australia. The former Parry Shire was located in the Liverpool Plains region and covered a broad area of countryside, south and east of the city of Tamworth. It did not include any major town, but had several villages. Parry Shire was formed in 1980 by the amalgamation of the former Peel Shire and Cockburn Shire. Part of the Peel Shire area was re-allocated to the growing City of Tamworth area at that time. Parry Shire was named because it occupied most of the land of Parry County, one of the cadastral ( survey and land registration ) divisions of New South Wales. Parry County was named after Sir William Edward Parry, a director of the Australian Agricultural Company, an early major landholder in the area. Barraba Shire was a local government area located in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia, about north of Tamworth via Fossickers Way. The Shire, administered from the town of Barraba covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1906 until 2004, when it was split between two new LGAs, Gwydir Shire and Tamworth Regional Council.
