Noël Ilari
Noël Ilari (11 September 1897—2 February 1985) was a French soldier who fought in both world wars. He served as president of the Assembly of French Polynesia from 1953 to 1955. Biography Ilari was born in Rennes in France. He fought in the First World War, which he finished at the rank of second lieutenant. He arrived in French Polynesia in 1934, where he came into conflict with the local authorities because of his challenge to commercial monopolies. When war was declared in 1939, as a reserve captain, he asked and obtained from Governor Frédéric Chastenet de Géry permission to go to France at his own expense to fight and thus took part in the French campaign in June 1940. Accusing General de Gaulle of wanting to divide the French, he joined Vichy and held positions within the Ministry of Sports and Youth. Assembly Of French Polynesia
The Assembly of French Polynesia (, ; Tahitian: ''Te apoʻoraʻa rahi o te fenua Māʻohi'') is the unicameral legislature of French Polynesia, an overseas country of the French Republic. It is located at Place Tarahoi in Papeete, Tahiti. It was established in its current form in 1996 although a Tahitian Assembly was first created in 1824. It consists of 57 members who are elected by popular vote for five years; the electoral system is based upon proportional representation in six multi-seat constituencies. Every constituency is represented by at least three representatives. Since 2001, the parity bill binds that the number of women matches the number of men elected to the assembly. Alfred Poroi
Alfred Ernest Teraireia Poroi (3 March 1906—27 August 1994) was a French Polynesian politician who represented French Polynesia in the French Senate from 1962 to 1971. Poroi was born in Mataiea on Tahiti and educated at l’école Viénot in Papeete. After working in the shipping industry, he was appointed manager of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand's Papeete operations. In 1934 he was one of the founders of the Radio-Club Océanien, which ran the first radio station in Tahiti, and later served as its president. In 1946 he founded a travel agency, Travel Poroi. In 1935 he was elected as a municipal councilor of Papeete. In 1941 when the council was dissolved and replaced by a commission he was appointed 1st deputy. Jean-Baptiste Céran-Jérusalémy
Jean-Baptiste Heitarauri Céran-Jérusalémy (4 February 1921 — 15 May 2014) was a French Polynesian politician who served twice as president of the Assembly of French Polynesia. He was a founder of the Democratic Rally of the Tahitian People. Céran-Jérusalémy was born in Papeete. After being dismissed from school, he worked at the public works department, and then the government printing office. During the Second World War he served in the local infantry company, but returned to the printing office after being demobilised in 1944. In 1947 he was a founder, with Pouvanaa a Oopa, of the Democratic Rally of the Tahitian People. He was elected President of the Assembly following the 1953 French Oceanian legislative election. As president, he advocated for French Oceania to become a French Department. He resigned as president in October 1953 after the Assembly rejected a motion for Departmentalisation.
