Novigrad, Istria County
Novigrad (; ) is a town in Istria County in western Croatia. It is also sometimes referred to as Novigrad Istarski (; ) to distinguish it from three other Croatian towns of the same name. Novigrad is set on a small peninsula on the western coast of Istria, north of the mouth of the river Mirna and some south of the border with Slovenia. History There was an ancient city in the broad area of what is now Novigrad, which was called Aemona. In the 5th and 6th centuries, Novigrad was called ''Neapolis'' (Greek Νεάπολις). From the early Middle Ages and right up until 1828 it was the seat of the Diocese of Novigrad, which has been identified with the Ancient see of Aemona and nominally restored as Latin Catholic titular see under both names. From 1270 it was under the rule of the Venetian Republic, which gave it the Italian name of ''Cittanova'', until Venice fell in the late 18th century. Novigrad, Zadar County
Novigrad is a village and municipality in Croatia in the Zadar County. According to the 2011 census, there were 2,375 inhabitants, absolute majority of whom were Croats. History In 1386, the Hungarian and Croatian sovereign Mary and her mother, Elizabeth of Bosnia, were imprisoned in Novigrad. Elizabeth was strangled in Novigrad in 1387 but Mary was liberated. It was part of Republic of Venice in 1409. Venetian rule in Novigrad briefly interrupted by Ottoman occupation between 1646 and 1647 during Cretan War. Novigrad Na Dobri
Novigrad na Dobri is a village in Karlovac County, Croatia. The name translates in English to "New town on the Dobra river". Across the river Dobra, there is a 14th-century castle that once belonged to the Croatian noble family Frankopan. Geography The castle is situated above a cliff on the right bank of the Dobra, only a drive from the Ž3141 road, from which it is prominently visible, as is the case from the more recently built A6 only away. It is also only from the junction of the D3 and D23. The castle is a walk from Dubovac castle and from Zvečaj castle. A park was once maintained around the castle, but it is now overgrown. The castle's floorplan is a scalene triangle, with a large circular tower on the north corner and two smaller circular towers on the other corners. The east and west walls have two small semi-towers. Novigrad Podravski is a naselje, village and a municipality in the Koprivnica-Križevci County in Croatia. In the 2011 census, there were a total of 2,872 inhabitants. The Witcher
''The Witcher'' (, ) is a series of 9 fantasy novels and 15 short stories by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series revolves around the eponymous witcher, Geralt of Rivia. Witchers are monster hunters given superhuman abilities for the purpose of killing dangerous creatures. ''The Witcher'' began with a titular 1986 short story that Sapkowski entered into a competition held by '' Fantastyka'' magazine, marking his debut as an author.
