Novaggio
Novaggio is a municipality in the district of Lugano, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. History Novaggio is first mentioned in 1244 as ''Novagio''. Graves found in Pazz and Traversagna suggest a nearby Iron Age settlement. In the Early Middle Ages the monastery of S. Abbondio of Como owned property in the village, while the Como Cathedral owned a farm and mill near Novaggio. In 1294, the Humiliati monastery of Astano owned a house and property in the village. At that time Novaggio, Curio, Banco and Bedigliora formed a '' kastlanei''. There were certainly several fortifications around the village, but the exact location, number and type is unknown. The Church of S. Siro was first mentioned in 1352, and was a parish church since 1632. The current building dates from 1625. At the end of the 19th century, a local family founded Evangelical parish. The Lugano District ( it, Distretto di Lugano also called Luganese) is a district of Canton of Ticino, southern Switzerland. The capital is the city of Lugano. It has a population of (as of ). Geography The Lugano District has an area, , of . Of this area, or 15.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while or 66.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, or 15.3% is settled (buildings or roads), or 0.7% is either rivers or lakes and or 4.6% is unproductive land. Of the built-up area, housing and buildings made up 9.1% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.6%. Out of the forested land, 59.6% of the total land area is heavily forested and 3.7% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 5.7% is used for growing crops and 9.1% is used for alpine pastures. Of the water in the district, 0.2% is in lakes and 0.5% is in rivers and streams. Bedigliora
Bedigliora is a municipality in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Bedigliora is first mentioned in 1335 as ''Bedaliola''. The settlement of Banco is first mentioned as ''Bango'' in 1421. Traces of prehistoric settlements in the area include a Neolithic era ax, tombs from the Iron Age, a stele with northern Etruscan inscriptions and a domed grave. During the Middle Ages, Bedigliora and Banco along with Curio and Novaggio formed a '' Kastlanei''. The provost's Church of St. Roch was consecrated in 1644, however it was built over an older chapel. The church of San Salvatore in Banco goes back to the Middle Ages and was originally the religious and secular center of the ''Kastlanei''. In 1612, Bedigliora became the seat of the parish church. Curio, Switzerland
Curio is a municipality in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. History Curio is first mentioned in 1196 as ''Coira''. In 1298 it was mentioned as ''Cuyri''. During the Middle Ages Curio, Novaggio, Banco and Bedigliora formed a '' Kastlanei''. The first village church, consecrated to St. Peter, was mentioned in 1352. The present church was built in 1609. Historically, many residents emigrated to foreign countries for work. Some of these emigrant families became quite famous. They include the family Avanzini (notaries, doctors, construction workers) and Visconti (architects and engineers), who worked, from the end of the 18th and over the entire 19th centuries, in Piedmont and Russia.
