Nova Scotia Clippers
The Nova Scotia Clippers were a professional soccer team based in the original Canadian Soccer League. They were based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but played their matches in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at Beazley Field. They played only a single season in 1991. History In 1989, an expansion franchise for the Canadian Soccer League was awarded to the Nova Scotia Professional Soccer Society, which would debut two years later in 1991. They were the first professional soccer team in the Halifax area. The club played their home matches at Beazley Field in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, after the city of Halifax was not interested in hosting the team at Wanderers Grounds. Dartmouth spent $25,000 in improvements to the field, in anticipation of the Clippers arrival. Their head coach and general manager was Gordon Hill. Gordon Hill (footballer)
Gordon Alec Hill (born 1 April 1954) is an English former footballer who played in the Football League for Millwall, Manchester United, Derby County and Queens Park Rangers, and was capped six times for the England national team. Player In 1971, after leaving Longford School, Hill began his club career with Staines Town of the Athenian League as a 17-year-old. In 1972, he moved to Southall F.C., playing a few youth games there while his brother was on trial at the club. He drew the attention of Millwall F.C. and signed with them in 1973. Known to The Lions fans as 'Merlin', Hill had outstanding skill that earned him wide recognition. Shel Brodsgaard (born May 29, 1970) is a Canadian former professional goalkeeper. Early life Brodsgaard began playing soccer with the Gorge Youth Soccer Association and represented British Columbia at U16 and U18 Provincial All-Star levels. Career He signed his first professional contract at age 15, with the Edmonton Brick Men of the Canadian Soccer League. He later played with the Victoria Vistas, Nova Scotia Clippers, and North York Rockets. He also played with the Tacoma Stars of the Major Indoor Soccer League. He also played for the Winnipeg Fury and Danish side Hvidovre IF. Prior to joining the Rockets, he had a trial with Danish club Boldklubben 1909. The Canadian Soccer League (CSL; french: Ligue canadienne de soccer — LCS) is a semi-professional league for Canadian soccer clubs primarily located in the province of Ontario, and claims the history of the Canadian National Soccer League (CNSL). Pat Sullivan (born March 20, 1971) is a Canadian former soccer player who played in the Canadian Soccer League, American Professional Soccer League, and the Canadian Professional Soccer League. Playing career Sullivan began his career in 1991, in the Canadian Soccer League with Nova Scotia Clippers. In 1992 he was a member of the North York Rockets. After the demise of the CSL he signed with the Toronto Rockets of the American Professional Soccer League. He made his debut for the club on July 8, 1994 in a match against the Seattle Sounders. Michael Lyons (born 8 December 1951) is an English former footballer in the 1970s and 1980s. He is most famous as captain of Everton during this period. Early life Lyons was educated at the all-boys' De La Salle School in Liverpool. He was an Everton fan and his dream was to play for the football club. Club career Everton Lyons signed as a professional at Everton in 1970 after having served an apprenticeship at the club. He made his first team debut in the Football League First Division in 1971.
