Nottingham Central Library
Nottingham Central Library is the name given to the main public lending library in Nottingham, England. The library at Angel Row was closed to public in 2020 with the contents placed into storage, contingent upon a new building becoming available. The new building was opened in November 2023, closer to the railway station. History The first Nottingham Public Lending Library opened on 13 April 1868. It was opened by Mayor John Barber. It contained almost 10,000 books, 400 members signed up on the first day and 70,512 books were issued in the first year. It started life on Thurland Street in premises formerly used by Artizans’ Library. The Artizans’ library had been founded in 1824. The Thurland Street premises eventually proved to be inadequate and a new building was erected on Sherwood Street in 1879 adjoining University College. Nottingham
Nottingham ( , locally ) is a city and unitary authority area in Nottinghamshire, East Midlands, England. It is located north-west of London, south-east of Sheffield and north-east of Birmingham. Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making, bicycle and tobacco industries. The city is also the county town of Nottinghamshire and the settlement was granted its city charter in 1897, as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham City Council is the local authority for the Unitary authorities of England, unitary authority of Nottingham in Nottinghamshire, England. Enid Blyton
Enid Mary Blyton (11 August 1897 – 28 November 1968) was an English children's writer, whose books have been worldwide bestsellers since the 1930s, selling more than 600 million copies. Her books are still enormously popular and have been translated into 90 languages. As of June 2019, Blyton held 4th place for the most translated author. She wrote on a wide range of topics, including education, natural history, fantasy, mystery, and biblical narratives. The Adventures Of Noddy
Noddy is an English character created by English children's author Enid Blyton. Noddy first appeared in a book series published between 1949 and 1963, illustrated by the Dutch artist Harmsen van der Beek from 1949 until his death in 1953, after which the work was continued by Peter Wienk. Television shows based on the character have run on British television since 1955. Noddy The first book explains Noddy's origins. He is made by a woodcarver in a toy store but runs away after the man begins to make a wooden lion, which scares Noddy. Harry Gill (architect)
Harry Gill LRIBA (25 January 1858 - 15 February 1925) was an architect based in Nottingham. Career Harry Gill was born in 1858, the son of William Gill (1824-1891) and Lydia Pinder (1825-1908). He married Elizabeth Pare (b. 1857) and they had a son Harry Percival Gill (b. 1887), also later an architect. He was a pupil articled to Henry Sulley. He then commenced business on his own. He was appointed a Licentiate of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1912. From 1901 to 1908 he took as his assistant his former pupil, Joseph Warburton. He was president of the Nottingham and Derby Architectural Society for five years. He was also an antiquary and archaeologist, and published many articles in the Transactions of the Thoroton Society of Nottinghamshire. Broadmarsh Shopping Centre
Broadmarsh is a historic area of Nottingham, England. The area was subjected to large scale slum clearance, creating large spaces used for regeneration. A shopping centre, car park, bus station and road complex created in the early 1970s cut-through the traditional thoroughfares from the city centre to the rail and canalside area. A large courts building was opened in 1981. The former shopping precinct known as The Broadmarsh Centre (rebranded in 2013 as intu Broadmarsh) was located slightly south of the centre of Nottingham, on land owned by Nottingham City Council and formerly leased to Intu Properties. It was partly demolished during renovation work by the intu group. Nottingham Station
Nottingham station, briefly known as Nottingham City and for rather longer as Nottingham Midland, is a railway station and tram stop in the city of Nottingham. It is the principal railway station of Nottingham. It is also a nodal point on the city's tram system, with a tram stop that was originally called Station Street but is now known as Nottingham Station. The station was first built by the Midland Railway (MR) in 1848 and rebuilt by the same company in 1904, with much of the current building dating from the later date. It is now owned by Network Rail and managed by East Midlands Railway (EMR). Besides EMR trains, it is also served by CrossCountry and Northern trains and by Nottingham Express Transit (NET) trams. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Broadmarsh Bus Station
Broadmarsh bus station is a bus station serving the city of Nottingham, England. The new bus station is situated in Nottingham City Centre adjacent to the former Broadmarsh Shopping Centre, underneath its multi-storey car park. It is bordered by Canal Street (A6008 road) and The bus station is away from Nottingham railway and tram stations. Services National Express services moved from their temporary terminus outside Nottingham Railway Station to Bays 10 and 11 at the new bus station on 14 June 2022, and their new facilities within the bus station were opened on the same date. Notts TV
Notts TV is a British commercial local television channel which broadcasts to the City of Nottingham and the surrounding areas. Notts TV launched on 27 May 2014 on Freeview channel 8 followed by Virgin channel 159. In July 2015, the channel also became available on Sky channel 117. Notts TV also has an extensive video on demand library available on its website with most programming becoming available shortly after broadcast. In April 2016, Notts TV moved to channel 7 on Freeview (the number previously occupied by BBC Three which closed as a linear channel the month before). Notts TV ceased operations on Sky in September 2017. Notts TV is owned and most of its programming is produced by a consortium of four Nottingham based media-related organisations: Nottingham Post, Nottingham Trent University, Confetti Media Group and Inclusive Digital.
