''Nothing Like Experience'' is a 1970 Australian film made by Melbourne University Film Society about three students at Melbourne University. It was part of the "Carlton wave" of Australian filmmaking. The film was commissioned by the SRC and the Council of the Student Union. John Romeril
John Henry Romeril (born 1945) is an Australian playwright and teacher. He has written around 60 plays for theatre, film, radio, and television, and is known for his 1975 play ''The Floating World''. Early life and education John Henry Romeril was born in 1945 and grew up in Melbourne, living in Moorabbin until 1966. He attended Bentleigh West State School, Brighton Tech., and Brighton High Schools, and then undertook a BA at Monash University, graduating in 1970 with majors in English Literature and Politics. Career Over the course of his career, Romeril wrote plays for theatre, film, radio, and television, including stage, musicals, puppet theatre, pantomimes, and street theatre. In 1968 he became involved with La Mama Theatre, which had been established in that year by Betty Burstall. Nigel Buesst
Nigel Buesst (born 30 April 1938) is an Australian filmmaker from Melbourne. After graduating B.Com in 1960 from Melbourne University he headed overseas to London and worked as an assistant editor at Shepperton Studios. On returning to Melbourne in 1962 he worked for some months at the ABC's Ripponlea newsroom, and freelanced as a cameraman on various productions. He also started directing his own films, beginning with “Fun Radio” in 1963. After the success of his film "Rise and Fall of Squizzy Taylor" he began teaching at the Swinburne University of Technology (1970-1984) while continuing to make films on a diverse range of subjects. He was also a co-founder and the artistic director of the St Kilda Film Festival from 1986 to 1990. Buesst has been described as "a living legend of Melbourne's film scene" and was a figure in the "Carlton wave" of Australian filmmaking.
