91st (Princess Louise's Argyllshire) Regiment
The 91st (Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot was a Line Regiment of the British Army, raised in 1794. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot to form the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in 1881. History Formation The regiment was raised in Argyll by General Duncan Campbell of Lochnell for John Campbell, 5th Duke of Argyll as the 98th (Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, in response to the threat posed by the French Revolution, on 10 February 1794. The regiment took part in the invasion of the Cape Colony in June 1795 and witnessed the surrender of the colony by Dutch Forces in September 1795. The regiment was re-ranked as the 91st (Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot in May 1796 before embarking for England in January 1803. Dave Cameron (footballer)
David Anthony Cameron (born 24 August 1975) is a Welsh football manager and former professional footballer. He played as a striker, notably in the Football League for Brighton & Hove Albion, Lincoln City and Chester City. He also played in Scotland for Falkirk, East Stirlingshire and St Mirren as well as spells in Non-league football with Worthing, Droylsden, Telford United, Tamworth and Halifax Town. He retired with Rhyl, but later had a spell as player/manager of Bradford Park Avenue. Playing career Cameron began his career with local side Dunipace Juniors before moving to Falkirk. John McAusland Denny
Colonel John McAusland Denny (29 November 1858 – 9 December 1922) was a Scottish businessman and Conservative Party politician. Denny was born in Helenslee, Dumbarton, one of eight sons of Dr. Peter Denny. His grandfather William Denny founded the family shipbuilding firm William Denny and Brothers. He was educated at Dumbarton Academy and in Lausanne and became a shipbuilder and a director of the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway company. He was elected at the 1895 general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kilmarnock Burghs. and re-elected in 1900, holding the seat until standing down at the 1906 general election. He was a founder member of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Association for Women's Suffrage. James Craufurd (British Army Officer)
General James Robertson Craufurd (1804–1888) was a senior British Army officer. Military career Crauford was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards. He was commander of the Brigade of Guards during the Crimean War. He then became Major General commanding the Brigade of Guards in 1861. He was promoted to lieutenant general in 1863 In 1864, he became colonel of the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot. Sir Ivar Iain Colquhoun, 8th Baronet, JP, DL (4 January 1916 – 31 January 2008) was a British noble. Biography Early life Sir Ivar was the son of Sir Iain Colquhoun, 7th Baronet and his wife Geraldine Bryde (Dinah) Tennant. He was educated at Eton. Career He was working at a lumber camp in Finland at the outbreak of World War II, and joined a Territorial Army battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders as a private soldier. When the Soviet Union invaded Finland in November 1939, he was seconded to the 5th (Ski) Battalion Scots Guards. This was disbanded after Finland was forced to accept Russian terms in March 1940. In April 1940 he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, and served in Libya during the siege of Tobruk, later to become the subject of some of his drier reminiscences. Thomas Horatio Arthur Ernest Cochrane, 1st Baron Cochrane of Cults (2 April 1857 – 17 January 1951), was a Scottish soldier and Liberal Unionist politician. He was Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department under Arthur Balfour between 1902 and 1905. Background and education Cochrane was the second son of Thomas Cochrane, 11th Earl of Dundonald, and Louisa Harriet, daughter of William Mackinnon, and the younger brother of Douglas Cochrane, 12th Earl of Dundonald. Brigadier General Alfred Edward John Cavendish, CMG (19 June 1859 – 2 February 1943) was a British Army general who served in the Second Boer War and First World War as a staff officer. History Cavendish was on 14 January 1880 commissioned a second lieutenant in the 91st (Princess Louise's Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment, later the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. Niall Diarmid Campbell, 10th and 3rd Duke of Argyll (16 February 1872 – 20 August 1949) was a Scottish peer and historian, the 10th Duke of Argyll and 25th Chief of Clan Campbell. Ian Campbell, 12th Duke of Argyll, (28 August 1937 – 21 April 2001), styled Marquess of Lorne between 1949 and 1973, was a Scottish peer and Chief of Clan Campbell. He was the 12th Duke of Argyll in the Peerage of the United Kingdom and Lord Lieutenant of Argyll and Bute.
