Not So Long Ago
''Not So Long Ago'' is a 1925 American silent drama film produced by Jesse Lasky and Adolph Zukor and distributed by Paramount. It was directed by Sidney Olcott with Betty Bronson and Ricardo Cortez in the leading roles. Plot As described in a film magazine reviews, Betty, the daughter of Dover the inventor, works by the day as a seamstress in the Ballard home. Billy Ballard, the Beau Brummel of the town, is engaged to Ursula Kent, but Betty pretends to herself in her day dreams that he is in love with her. Sam Robinson, the town’s smart aleck, proposes to her and is indignant when she rejects him. Dover borrows money from Flint to continue the invention of his horseless carriage. When the time draws near for the notes to be paid to Flint, Dover is unable to pay them. Betty tells Sam that Billy has proposed to her. Sam tells this to her father who goes to the Ballard home. Sidney Olcott
Sidney Olcott (born John Sidney Allcott, September 20, 1872 – December 16, 1949) was a Canadian-born film producer, director, actor and screenwriter. Biography Born John Sidney Allcott in Toronto, he became one of the first great directors of the motion picture business. With a desire to be an actor, a young Sidney Olcott went to New York City where he worked in the theatre until 1904 when he performed as a film actor with the Biograph Studios. In 1907, Frank J. Marion and Samuel Long, with financial backing from George Kleine, formed a new motion picture company called the Kalem Company and were able to lure the increasingly successful Olcott away from Biograph. Olcott was offered the sum of ten dollars per picture and under the terms of his contract, Olcott was required to direct a minimum of one, one-reel picture of about a thousand feet every week. Julia Swayne Gordon
Julia Swayne Gordon (born Sarah Victoria Smith; October 29, 1878 – May 28, 1933) was an American actress who appeared in at least 228 films between 1908 and 1933. Early years Gordon was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Louis and Anna Smith and was educated there. She went to Denver to study dramatics under Jessie Bonstelle. Career Gordon moved to New York and acted in stock theater, after which, she performed with Henrietta Crosman and James A. Herne. Gordon's work in film began in 1905 with the Edison Company, and in 1908 she moved to Vitagraph Studios. In 1911 she starred in Vitagraph's screen portrayal of the Lady Godiva legend. Perhaps her most memorable performance, however, is as Richard Arlen's mother in the World War I silent film '' Wings'' (1927), which won the first Academy Award for Best Picture.
