Norwegian Coastal Ranger Command
''Kystjegerkommandoen'' (, or ''KJK'') is a unit in the Royal Norwegian Navy. KJK is a marine commando unit trained to operate in littoral combat theatres, filling the role of marines and coastal artillery. The unit consists of coastal rangers and vessel operators. Home base is at Trondenes in Harstad Municipality in North Norway. Background and history Beyond the 1990s and up to the turn of the millennium, there was a widespread perception that the Coast Artillery's coastal forts had played their role, as the experiences from the Gulf War in 1990–1991 showed that stationary installations were very vulnerable to precision-guided weapons. A commando is a combatant, or operative of an elite light infantry or special operations force, specially trained for carrying out raids and operating in small teams behind enemy lines. Bergen (, ) is a city and municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestland county on the Western Norway, west coast of Norway. Haakonsvern Naval Base
Haakonsvern is the main base of the Royal Norwegian Navy and the largest naval base in the Nordic area. The base is located at Mathopen within Bergen municipality, about 15 km south-west of the city centre. Around 5,400 people work at the base as conscripts, officers or civilian staff. Haakon Bruun-Hanssen
Haakon Stephen Bruun-Hanssen (born 8 July 1960, in Bergen) is a Norwegian officer with the rank of admiral and Inspector General of the Navy. He was appointed head of the operational headquarters of the Norwegian Armed Forces and Chief of Defence from 2013 to 2020. He retired in August 2020, and Eirik Kristoffersen was appointed as his replacement. Military career In 1980, Bruun-Hanssen started his military career with an officer course at KNM Harald Haarfarge and in 1981 he graduated as a second lieutenant after completion of Officer School of the Norwegian Navy. Marinejegerkommandoen
''Marinejegerkommandoen'' (MJK) () is the maritime/naval special warfare unit of the Norwegian Armed Forces and was established in 1953. The MJK is under the command of the Norwegian Special Operations Command (NORSOCOM) together with the '' Forsvarets Spesialkommando'' (FSK), with the MJK being the older of the two units. The unit is headquartered on the Ramsund naval base in northern Norway, with other MJK operators stationed on the Haakonsvern naval base in southwestern Norway. Provincial Reconstruction Team Meymaneh
The Provincial Reconstruction Team in Meymaneh was an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) command; it existed between 2004 and 2012. The 202nd Coastal Ranger Company (, or , KJ) is a marine commando (special operations capable) unit within the Swedish Amphibious Corps, which is the infantry component of the Swedish Navy. History The embryo for the formation of the coastal rangers began with a discussion at the Coastal Artillery Club () on 4 December 1950. The introductory speech about commandos was made by Captain Bertil Stjernfelt. During the evening, three Swedish officers with war experience told the demands that should be placed on Swedish commandos.
