The Bienen School of Music (formally the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music) is the music and performance arts school of Northwestern University. It is located on Northwestern University's campus in Evanston, Illinois, United States. The school was previously known as the Northwestern University School of Music from 1895 until September 2008, when it was renamed to honor retiring University president Henry Bienen and his wife, Leigh Buchanan Bienen. Ekachai Jearakul
Ekachai Jearakul (born 5 July 1987) is a Thai classical guitarist. Ekachai studied guitar with Kiattipong Tangsakul at Yamaha Ubonratchatani at age 13. He moved to Bangkok in 2003 to study at the College of Music, Mahidol University, where he studied with Worakarn Saengsomboon, Dr.Paul Cesarczyk and many other fine teachers at the university. He was awarded a scholarship to study at the College of Music at Mahidol University where he majored in classical guitar. He later completed and graduated his bachelor's degree in Classical Guitar Performance with first class honors in 2010. Matthew Polenzani
Matthew Polenzani (born 1968) is an American lyric tenor. He has appeared with the Metropolitan Opera, Seattle Opera, Royal Opera House, Bayerische Staatsoper, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Vienna State Opera, and San Francisco Opera, among others. Yunchan Lim (; born March 20, 2004) is a South Korean pianist. In 2022, he gained widespread recognition when he became the youngest person ever to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at 18 years old. Yekwon Sunwoo
Yekwon Sunwoo (; born February 10, 1989) is a South Korean classical pianist. In 2017, at 28 years old, Sunwoo was the first Korean to win the gold medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. He won the Sendai International Music Competition in 2013. Background Sunwoo was born in Anyang, South Korea in 1989. He began studying piano at the age of 8, drawn to the instrument from hearing his two older sisters play. Van Cliburn International Piano Competition
The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (The Cliburn) is an American piano competition by The Cliburn, first held in 1962 in Fort Worth, Texas and hosted by the Van Cliburn Foundation. Initially held at Texas Christian University, the competition has been held at the Bass Performance Hall since 2001. The competition is named in honour of Van Cliburn, who won the first International Tchaikovsky Competition, in 1958. The Van Cliburn Competition is held once every four years, with an edition currently being held in 2025. The winners and runners-up receive substantial cash prizes, plus concert tours at world-famous venues where they are able to perform pieces of their choice. Maria João Pires
Maria João Alexandre Barbosa Pires (; born 23 July 1944) is a Portuguese classical pianist, widely regarded as one of the leading interpreters of the repertoire of the 18th and 19th centuries. Emanuel "Manny" Ax (born June 8, 1949) is a Grammy Award-winning American classical pianist. He is known for his chamber music collaborations with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinists Isaac Stern and Young Uck Kim, as well as his piano recitals and performances with major orchestras in the world.
