Northwest African Troop Carrier Command
The Northwest African Troop Carrier Command (NATCC) was a combined British-U.S. air command of the Second World War. It was a sub-command of the Northwest African Air Forces which was a sub-command of the Mediterranean Air Command (MAC). These new Allies of World War II, Allied air force organizations were created at the Casablanca Conference in January 1943 to promote cooperation between the British Royal Air Force (RAF), the American United States Army Air Forces, and their respective ground and naval forces in the North African and Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO) during the World War II, Second World War. Effective February 18, 1943, the NATCC and other MAC commands existed until December 10, 1943 when MAC was disbanded and the Mediterranean Allied Air Forces (MAAF) were established. The 59th Troop Carrier Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit. It was last assigned to the 61st Troop Carrier Group, based at Waller Field, Trinidad. It was inactivated on 31 Jul 1945. History Activated in June 1942 as a I Troop Carrier Command C-47 Skytrain troop carrier squadron, trained in the United States. Assigned to Twelfth Air Force and deployed North Africa during May 1943. The 53d Airlift Squadron is an inactive United States Air Force unit, last part of the 19th Airlift Wing at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas. It operated Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft for airlift and airdrop operations. The squadron (aviation), squadron was first activated in June 1942 as the 53d Troop Carrier Squadron. After training in the United States, it deployed to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, where it participated in the airborne assault on Sicily, for which it earned a Distinguished Unit Citation (DUC).
