Northland Emergency Services Trust
The Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST) is an emergency air rescue service in Whangārei, New Zealand. The Trust is supported by contributions from local sponsors, individuals, families, businesses and organisations. The operator, Northern Rescue Helicopter Ltd. (NRHL), is a joint venture between Northland Emergency Services Trust and Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust. History The concept for the Northland Emergency Services Trust was conceived at a public meeting called at the request of the Auckland Surf Club in 1988. The meeting discussed the idea of having a rescue helicopter in Northland for three months over the summer period. Joyce Ryan, who was the Mayor of Whangārei at the time, asked those present if they thought the money that was being asked for, to run the service for three months, seemed fair. Whangārei
Whangārei () is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the largest settlement of the Northland Region. It is part of the Whangarei District, created in 1989 from the former Whangarei City, Whangarei County and Hikurangi Town councils to administer both the city and its hinterland. The city population was estimated to be an increase from 47,000 in 2001. Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust
The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter is a New Zealand accident and emergency rescue and transport service operated by Northern Rescue Helicopter Ltd (NRH''. The operator is a joint venture between Northland Emergency Services Trust and Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust. The trust operates two AW169 and one BK117 helicopters on behalf of the helicopter owners—the greater Auckland community. There are four "Westpac Rescue Helicopter" services in New Zealand, but they are all separate entities and only linked by the same major sponsor. The aircraft and crew are trained and equipped to operate day and night, their missions range from emergency/accident casualty transport, to medical transfers (medevacs), rescue searches and airlifts. Bell 206
The Bell 206 is a family of two-bladed, single- and twin-engined helicopters, manufactured by Bell Helicopter at its Mirabel, Quebec, plant. Originally developed as the Bell YOH-4 for the United States Army's Light Observation Helicopter program, it was not selected by the Army. Bell redesigned the airframe and successfully marketed the aircraft commercially as the five-place Bell 206A JetRanger. The new design was eventually selected by the Army as the OH-58 Kiowa. The MBB/Kawasaki BK 117 is a twin-engined light Utility helicopter, utility–transport helicopter. Northpower Limited (Northpower) is an electricity distribution company, based in Whangārei, New Zealand. Northpower owns and manages the electricity lines network in the Whangārei and Kaipara districts. The service area covers 5,700 km2 and extends from Topuni in the south, to Bland Bay in the north.
