The Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) is an Australian rules football competition, operating in Greater Darwin, Northern Territory, Darwin and the Northern Territory, formerly run by the Northern Territory Football League Incorporated and, since 3 September 2001, is a business name of the AFL Northern Territory Limited. The NTFL is currently branded "TIO NTFL" under sponsorship naming rights held by Allianz, which owns the Territory Insurance Office (TIO). It operates a semi-professional senior men's competition as well as competitions for women (NTFL Women's) and underagers (U12-U18 boys and girls) (NTFL Juniors). It is one of few (and the highest level) Australian football competitions played during the Australian Summer with the season beginning in October and ending in March, because cricket cannot be played during the wet season, due to high levels of rain, resulting in the football and cricket seasons being swapped. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an Australian rules football playing field, oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the Football (ball)#Australian rules football, oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. Michael McLean (footballer)
Michael "Magic" McLean (born 3 March 1965) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Footscray Football Club, Brisbane Bears and Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life McLean was born and raised in the Northern Territory and played both rugby league and Australian football at junior levels. His father, from Queensland pushed for Michael at fifteen years of age to pursue a career in rugby league, however, he decided to continue playing Australian football. McLean played his first senior league with the Nightcliff rugby league club but also played Australian football for the Nightcliff Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League where he was eventually scouted by the Footscray Football Club to play professionally. PINT Football Club
The PINT Football Club (sometimes referred to as PINTS), nicknamed the Greenants, is an Australian rules football club based in the Darwin suburb of Marrara. The club was formed by people associated with the Postal Institute of the Northern Territory (PINT). As of 2024, the club competes in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL), with men's and women's teams participating in Premier League, Division 1 and Division 2. The Nightcliff Football Club, nicknamed, Tigers, is a member club of the Northern Territory Football League, and is based in the Darwin suburb of Nightcliff. Club achievements * note: Nightcliff finished on top in the 1974/75 season after when it got cancelled after Round 11. History The club was formed in 1950. It was formally known as Working & Housing. The Darwin Football Club, nicknamed, Buffaloes, is an Australian rules football club, playing in the Northern Territory Football League. It is the third oldest football club in the Northern Territory. Darwin has won the second most premierships in the NTFL competition. It has produced a large number of Australian Footballers who went on to play professionally in the Australian Football League. Club achievements History The club was formed in 1916. They've been known as Warriors in 1917, Vestey’s in 1918, Buffaloes in 1926, Darwin in 1963 and eventually the Darwin Buffaloes in 2010. The Top End Australian Football Association (TEAFA) was an amateur Australian rules football competition in the Northern Territory, Australia. Northern Territory Football Club
The Northern Territory Football Club, nicknamed NT Thunder, was a Northern Territory-based Australian rules football club that competed in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) between 2011 and 2019, and the VFL Women's between 2018 and 2019. The club was disbanded at the end of the 2019 season, however its identity continues to be seen in the under-19s Talent League Boys and Talent League Girls competitions, where the Northern Territory Academy plays a handful of games each year. The North East Australian Football League (NEAFL ) was an Australian rules football league in New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. The league was formed in November 2010, and its inaugural competition was in 2011. The North Adelaide Football Club, nicknamed the Roosters, is an Australian rules football club affiliated with the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and SANFL Women's League (SANFLW).
