Northern Styrian Alps
The Northern Styrian Alps (''Steirische Nordalpen'' in German language, German) is the proposed name for a subdivision of mountain ranges in an as-yet-unadopted classification of the Alps located in Austria. Geography Administratively the range belongs to the States of Austria, Austrian state of Styria and, marginally, to Upper Austria and Lower Austria. The whole range is drained by the Danube river. Hochtor
Hochtor, at , is the highest mountain in the Ennstaler Alps, part of the Northern Limestone Alps, in Styria, Austria. The mountain is protected as part of Gesäuse National Park, the third largest in Austria. SOIUSA (an acronym for - English: ''International Standardized Mountain Subdivision of the Alps-ISMSA'') is a proposal for a new classification system of the Alps from the geographic and toponomastic point of view. It was designed by Sergio Marazzi, Italian researcher and author of the Orographic Atlas of the Alps ''SOIUSA''. His book was presented with the patronage of the Italian Alpine Club on 23 Jan 2006, but has yet to receive any formal acceptance. Schneeberg (Alps)
The Schneeberg, with its high summit ''Klosterwappen'', is the highest mountain of Lower Austria, and the easternmost and northernmost mountain in the Alps to exceed 2000 m. It is a distinctive limestone massif with steep slopes on three sides. The Schneeberg is one of the Northern Calcareous Alps in the borderland between Lower Austria and Styria, in the eastern part of Austria. It and the Rax (), some to the south-west, are collectively considered the Viennese Hausberge (Vienna's "local mountains"). The rich Karst plateaux have provided drinking water for Vienna, via a long pipeline, since 1873, and is claimed to be the best drinking water in the world. On clear days, Schneeberg can be readily seen from parts of Vienna, some away (as the crow flies), from Bratislava in Slovakia and even from Babí Lom above Brno 180 km away. The Rax-Schneeberg Group (german: Rax-Schneeberg-Gruppe) is a mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps on the Styrian- Lower Austrian border in Austria. Mürzsteg Alps
The Mürzsteg Alps or Mürztal Alps (german: Mürztaler or Mürzsteger Alpen) are a mountain range in the Eastern Alps ( Northern Limestone Alps), which lie in the Austrian state of Styria, with a small part of the range in Lower Austria. The highest peak is the Hohe Veitsch () in the centre of the group, while largest massif is the Schneealpe () in the northwest, near the Rax. The following ranges border on the Mürzsteg Alps: to the north the Türnitz Alps, to the northeast the Gutenstein Alps, to the east the Rax-Schneeberg Group, to the southeast the Prealps east of the Mur (specifically the Fischbach Alps) and to the west the Hochschwab Mountains. Haller Mauern
The Haller Mauern is a small mountain chain, part of the larger Northern Limestone Alps. The western buttress of the main ridge is formed by the 2,244 m high Großer Pyhrgas. This mountain is also the highest peak in the Haller Mauern. Its summit offers fine views and may be relatively easily climbed on the so-called normal route, although sure-footedness is required.
