Northern Knights Football Club
The Northern Knights is an Australian rules football club playing in the Talent League, the top statewide under-18 competition in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. They are based in Preston, Victoria, Preston, representing the northern suburban area of Melbourne. The Knights are one of the six original clubs set up as part of a plan by the Victorian State Football League to replace the traditional club zones with independent junior clubs. This was to help aid in player development and the process of the AFL draft, which allows U18 players the opportunity to be selected by AFL clubs. Talent League
The Talent League (also known as the Coates Talent League under naming rights and previously as the NAB League and TAC Cup) is an under-19 Australian rules football representative competition based in Melbourne and run by the Australian Football League (AFL). It is based on geographic regions throughout country Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne with each team representing one of twelve Victorian regions, while a thirteenth team from Tasmania was reintroduced in 2019. The competition is the primary sources of recruitment for the clubs of the AFL with around three quarters of all players selected from its ranks in each AFL draft. It provides an opportunity for talented young regional players to participate in a high standard competition without having to relocate too far from their place of origin. Lance Whitnall
Lance Whitnall (born 23 August 1979) is a former Australian rules footballer, and a former captain of the Carlton Football Club. Early career (1997–1999) Debuting in 1997 as a 17-year-old, the young Whitnall was recruited in the 1996 AFL Draft under the father–son rule, with his father Graeme having played 66 games for Carlton in the 1970s and 1980s. The young red-headed, freckled Whitnall, known as "Banger", "Big Red" or simply "Red", quickly established himself in Carlton's best 22, kicking four goals on debut, and missing only a handful of games in 1997 and playing every game in 1998 and 1999. He became a vital part of Carlton's forward line, and in Round 17, 1998 against the Western Bulldogs, the then-19-year-old Whitnall became one of the youngest players to kick 8 goals in a game. Blake Caracella
Blake Caracella (born 15 March 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is currently serving as an assistant coach with the Richmond Football Club. AFL career Essendon Selected by Essendon in the 1994 National draft at pick 10, Caracella finally debuted with the Bombers in 1997. What had held him back was his lack of bulk—he came to the club weighing only 74 kg—however, he rectified this by pushing his playing weight up to 83 kg prior to his AFL debut. Caracella quickly established himself in the side as a skilful small forward/goalsneak, who had patience and poise. He earned himself an AFL Rising Star nomination for his work. Daniel Harford
Daniel Harford (born 19 March 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer and coach. Harford played for the Hawthorn Football Club and Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) and was senior coach of Carlton in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Angelo Lekkas
Angelo Lekkas (born 29 June 1976) is a former Australian rules footballer who played his entire professional career with the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). After a stellar year playing in the TAC competition with the Northern knights in 1993 and winning the best and fairest, he was highly sought after by AFL clubs, being a first-round pick in the 1993 AFL draft and number 17 overall. Chris Johnson (Australian Footballer Born 1976)
Christopher Lloyd Johnson (born 30 May 1976) is a former professional Australian rules footballer. His career highlights as an Australian Football League (AFL) player include three premierships with Brisbane, All-Australian selection, captain of the Australian International Rules team and inclusion in the Indigenous Team of the Century. Johnson was one of eight players to transfer to Brisbane when Fitzroy's AFL operations were taken over by the Brisbane Bears to form the Brisbane Lions and became the last Fitzroy Lion to play in the AFL. Shannon Gibson
Shannon Gibson (born 7 November 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn and Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. Gibson was recruited by Hawthorn with the 23rd pick of the 1993 AFL draft, after earning 'Best on Ground' honours for the Northern Knights in their TAC Cup final win over the Western Jets. He kicked two goals and two behinds on his AFL debut, a win over the previous year's Grand Finalists Geelong at Kardinia Park. John Barker (Australian Footballer)
John Barker (born 19 February 1975) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club, Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life John Barker was born on 19 February 1975. Barker played junior football for Pascoe Vale in the Essendon District Football League. The Talent League Girls (also known as the Coates Talent League Girls under naming rights and previously as the NAB League Girls and TAC Cup Girls) is an under-19 Australian rules football representative competition held in Australia. It is based on geographic regions throughout country Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne with each team representing twelve Victorian regions, while a thirteenth team from Tasmania was introduced in 2019. The league is one of the leading competitions for female footballers to be recruited to AFL Women's (AFLW) clubs. David Zaharakis
David Zaharakis (born 21 February 1990) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played 13 seasons for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early life Zaharakis attended Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School and finished Year 12 in 2008 at Marcellin College, where he also won the Terrence Cleary Memorial Sporting Award for sportsmanship and sporting excellence.
