Nancy Northcroft
Anna Holmes "Nancy" Northcroft (23 March 1913 – 31 July 1980) was a New Zealand architect and town planner. She was only the fourth woman to qualify as an architect in New Zealand. Northcroft won a 12-month British Council Empire Scholarship for Women, and travelled to England in 1942 to study town planning. Following her return to New Zealand, in 1949 she took up a position as town planning officer at the Christchurch City Council. In 1954 she was appointed as the founding chief executive of the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority (CRPA). In the later part of her career from 1963 to 1977, she worked in private practice for a Christchurch-based consultancy. In 1978 she was recognised with the inaugural gold medal award from the New Zealand Planning Institute, and was also awarded an OBE for services to town planning. Percy Northcroft
Percy Wilfred Northcroft (August 31, 1886 – December 20, 1967) was an American football player and Naval officer. He played tackle for the Navy Midshipmen football team from 1905 to 1908 and was selected as an All-American in 1906 and 1908. He later served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Biography Northcroft was a native of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He enrolled at the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in June 1905 and played at the tackle position for the Navy Midshipmen football team from 1905 to 1908. Northcroft also competed in the weight events for the Academy's track and field team and was elected as captain of the track team in May 1908. In 1906, Northcroft helped lead the Navy football team to a record of 8–2–2 and a 10–0 victory over Army. In the season-ending win over Army, Northcroft kicked a field goal that was variously reported to have been from the 42-yard line or the 48-yard line. Erima Northcroft
Sir Erima Harvey Northcroft (2 December 1884 – 10 October 1953) was a New Zealand lawyer, judge, and military leader. His papers from the Tokyo War Crimes Trial are held by the University of Canterbury. Biography Northcroft was born in Hokitika, New Zealand. He attended Auckland University College and began his law practice in Hamilton. In 1912, Northcroft was a founding member of the Hamilton District Law Society and later became its president. During World War I, Northcroft was an artillery officer in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in the 1919 King's Birthday Honours. The same year he returned to New Zealand, resumed his law practice, and joined an Auckland law firm in 1923. From 1927 to 1933, Northcroft was a deputy judge advocate general in the New Zealand Army and from 1933 to 1935 was a Judge Advocate General. Earle Northcroft
Earle Fead Northcroft (1896 – 1962) was a New Zealand botanist and physician who was a member of the 1924 Chatham Islands expedition scientific team. Early life Northcroft was born in 1896 in Christchurch the only son of Ernest Northcroft. His cousin was the lawyer and judge Sir Erima Northcroft. Career During WWI Northcroft served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force receiving the British War Medal. His occupation at enlistment was law clerk. After the war he attended the University of Otago attaining an M.Sc. in 1924 with a thesis entitled ''An Ecological Study of the New Zealand Plants at Lawyers Head.'' He then lectured in biology at Otago before gaining a Ph.D. at Victoria University of Wellington, Victoria University College in Wellington in 1931. George Northcroft
George Northcroft (1869 - 1943) was a British orthodontist who is known for his contributions in the formation of the British Orthodontic Society. The society was initially formed in 1907 as British Society for the Study of Orthodontics (BSSO) and the name later changed to British Orthodontic Society. He also played an important role in formation of the Dental Act of 1921 which made dentistry a profession in Great Britain. Hilda Margaret Northcroft
Hilda Margaret Northcroft (1882–1951) was a New Zealand medical doctor and community leader. Early life Northcroft was born in Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand in 1882. She attended school in Auckland and studied medicine at the Edinburgh College of Medicine for Women, graduating in 1908. She followed this with an LM in obstetrics at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. Career Northcroft returned to New Zealand in 1918 as medical officer on the troopship ''Ayreshire'' after practising medicine in England during the war. She practised obstetrics in Auckland. In addition to her medical practice Northcroft served on many professional bodies. Jonathan Northcroft
Jonathan Northcroft is a Scottish sports journalist and author. He is currently the Chief Football Writer for ''The Sunday Times''. Education Northcroft first attended Newtonhill Primary School, where he regularly turned class writing assignments into yet another opportunity to write on football. His earliest effort came at the age of six with his review of the 1978 FIFA World Cup, entitled 'The Caterpillar Who Went to Argentina'.
