North Western Reform Synagogue
The North Western Reform Synagogue, commonly known as Alyth, is a Reform Judaism, Reform Judaism, Jewish congregation and synagogue, located at Temple Fortune, Golders Green, in the London Borough of Barnet, Borough of Barnet, north-west London, England, in the United Kingdom. Overview The congregation was founded in 1933. Its building, designed by the architect Fritz Landauer, was built in Alyth Gardens in 1936, on land carved out from the West London Synagogue’s Golders Green Jewish Cemetery, cemetery in Hoop Lane. In 1942, the congregation became a founding member of Associated British Synagogue, now known as the Movement for Reform Judaism. With approximately 2,500 adult and 1,000 child members, the congregation is one of the largest Reform synagogues in the United Kingdom. The advocate general for Northern Ireland is the chief legal adviser to the Government of the United Kingdom on Northern Ireland law and the post is held by the attorney general for England and Wales by virtue of that office. The advocate general and the solicitor general for England and Wales have, in Northern Ireland, the same rights of audience as members of the Bar of Northern Ireland. Richard Simon Hermer, Baron Hermer, (born 1968) is a British barrister and life peer who has served as Attorney General for England and Wales and Advocate General for Northern Ireland since July 2024. Born in South Glamorgan, Hermer attended Cardiff High School. He went on to study politics and modern history at the University of Manchester and later pursued a legal career, being called to the bar in 1993. Norman Bentwich
Norman de Mattos Bentwich (28 February 1883 – 8 April 1971) was a British barrister and legal academic. He was the British-appointed attorney-general of Mandatory Palestine and a lifelong Zionist. Biography Early life Norman Bentwich was the oldest son of British Zionist Herbert Bentwich. He attended St Paul's School in London and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was said to be the "favorite pupil" of John Westlake. Bentwich was a delegate at the annual Zionist Congresses from 1907 to 1912. He paid his first visit to Palestine in 1908. He was commissioned in the Egyptian Camel Transport Corps on 1 January 1916. Leo Baeck
Leo Baeck (; 23 May 1873 – 2 November 1956) was a 20th-century German rabbi, scholar, and theologian. He served as leader of Reform Judaism in his native country and internationally, and later represented all German Jews during the Nazi era. After the Second World War, he settled in London, in the United Kingdom, where he served as the chairman of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. In 1955, the Leo Baeck Institute for the study of the history and culture of German-speaking Jewry was established, and Baeck was its first international president. Mark Goldsmith (born July 1963) is a British rabbi in the Movement for Reform Judaism. He is Senior Rabbi at Edgware & Hendon Reform Synagogue, a post he took up in 2019. He was previously a rabbi at North Western Reform Synagogue and a vocational programme tutor at Leo Baeck College in London. Goldsmith was born in July 1963. Laura Naomi Janner-Klausner (; born 1 August 1963) is a British rabbi and an inclusion and development coach who served as the inaugural Senior Rabbi to Reform Judaism from 2011 until 2020.
