North Posey Senior High School is a public high school located in Posey County, Indiana, with a Poseyville postal address. North Posey is the high school for the MSD of North Posey County, which includes Bethel, Robb, Smith, Harmony, Center and Robinson Townships in Posey County, Indiana. The school district includes the towns of Poseyville, New Harmony, Cynthiana and Griffin. The census-designated place of Parkers Settlement is in the district. History Plans to build a unified secondary school for the district were to commence in fall 1957. North Posey was opened in 1959, after the four separate schools of Poseyville, Cynthiana, Wadesville and Griffin consolidated. In 2012, New Harmony School consolidated with North Posey. The New Harmony consolidation meant that people from that community could take Advanced Placement courses, as the New Harmony School did not have those classes. Poseyville is a town in Robb Township, Posey County, Indiana, Robb Township, Posey County, Indiana, Posey County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,045 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. History The town of Poseyville was originally called Palestine when the town was first surveyed and laid out by James Smith on February 28, 1840. The town was set up along the New Harmony-Princeton coach line. The new town was recorded at the Posey County Recorder's Office on November 20, 1840. Palestine was renamed Poseyville when the town got its first post office on February 10, 1843, due to another town named Palestine, Indiana, which already had a post office. The name was officially approved and changed by the Indiana State Legislature on December 26, 1844, but did not get recorded locally. Griffin, Indiana
Griffin is a town in Bethel Township, Posey County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 143 at the 2020 census. History Griffin was originally called Price's Station, and under the latter name was laid out in 1881 by William Price, and named for him. The present name honors Samuel Griffin, an early postmaster. A post office called Griffin has been in operation since 1881. The town was destroyed by the 1925 Tri-State tornado on the afternoon of March 18, 1925, killing 25 people and injuring hundreds. In 1972, a nearby outdoor rock concert Erie Canal Soda Pop Festival caused quite a stir in the town over the course of three days. New Harmony Town and Township Consolidated Schools was a school district headquartered in New Harmony, Indiana. It operated one school, New Harmony School, with grades Kindergarten through 12. The district, in Posey County, included New Harmony, as well as Harmony Township. History The school in New Harmony opened in 1877. The school was created as part of a means of establishing a utopia. One principle in the utopia was that male and female students should receive the same education. A school building opened in 1913.
