The Province of North Karelia (, ) was a province of Finland from 1960 to 1997. It was established in 1960 when it was separated from the Province of Kuopio. In 1997 it was reunited with Kuopio and together with the Province of Mikkeli it was merged into the new Province of Eastern Finland. Provinces Of Finland
Between 1634 and 2009, Finland was administered as several provinces, or counties (, ). Finland had always been a unitary state: the provincial authorities were part of the central government's executive branch and apart from Åland, the provinces had little autonomy. There were never any elected provincial parliaments in continental Finland. The system was initially created by the Instrument of Government (1634), Instrument of Government of 1634 when Finland was a Finland as part of Sweden, part of Sweden. Its makeup was changed drastically on 1 September 1997, when the number of the provinces was reduced from twelve to six. This effectively made them purely administrative units, as linguistic and cultural boundaries no longer followed the borders of the provinces. Outokumpu
Outokumpu Oyj is a group of international companies headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, with 10,600 employees in more than 30 countries. Outokumpu is the largest producer of stainless steel in Europe and the second largest producer in the Americas. Outokumpu also has a long history as a mining company, and still mines chromium ore in Keminmaa for use as ferrochrome in stainless steel. Lauri Riikonen
Lauri Riikonen (31 December 1900 – 24 June 1973) was a Finland, Finnish jurist and politician, born in Pielisjärvi. He was a member of the Parliament of Finland from 1945 to 1950, representing the Centre Party (Finland), Agrarian League. He served as Deputy Minister of the Interior from 17 March to 30 September 1950 and Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works from 24 March to 31 March 1950. He was the governor of Kuopio Province from 1950 to 1960 and of Northern Karelia Province from 1960 to 1967. References
