North East MRT Line
The North East Line (NEL) is a high-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore. Operated by SBS Transit, the line is the MRT's shortest. It runs from HarbourFront MRT station, HarbourFront station in southern Singapore to Punggol Coast MRT station, Punggol Coast station in the northeast, serving 17 stations via Chinatown, Singapore, Chinatown, Little India, Singapore, Little India, Serangoon and Hougang. Coloured purple on official maps, it is Singapore's third MRT line and the world's first fully-automated underground driverless heavy rail line. Alstom Metropolis C751C
The Alstom Metropolis C751C is the second generation of communication-based train control (CBTC) electric multiple unit rolling stock in operation on the North East MRT line, North East line of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system. Eighteen 6-car train sets were manufactured by Shanghai Alstom Transport Co Ltd (joint venture of Alstom and Shanghai Electric), Deliveries began in July 2014, and all trainsets were delivered by 2015. Alstom SA () is a French multinational rolling stock manufacturer which operates worldwide in rail transport markets. Moving Block
In railway signalling, a moving block is a signalling block system where the blocks are defined in real time by computers as safe zones around each train. This requires both knowledge of the exact location and speed of all trains at any given time, and continual communication between the central signalling system and the train's cab signalling system. Moving block allows trains to run closer together (reduced headway) while maintaining required safety margins, thereby increasing the line's overall capacity. It may be contrasted with fixed block signalling systems. Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) and Transmission Based Signalling (TBS) are two signalling standards that can detect the exact location of trains and transmit back the permitted operating speed to enable this flexibility. Hougang () is a planning area and mature residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. It is the largest housing estate in Singapore based on land area, and is home to 247,528 residents as of 2018. Serangoon
Serangoon ( ) is a planning area and residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. Serangoon is bordered by these planning areas – Sengkang to the north, Hougang to the east, Ang Mo Kio and Bishan to the west, as well as Toa Payoh to the south. Serangoon planning area has a total of seven subzones: Serangoon Central, Lorong Chuan, Upper Paya Lebar, Serangoon Garden, Serangoon North, Seletar Hills and Serangoon North Industrial Estate. Little India () is an ethnic enclave in Singapore located east of the Singapore River, across from Chinatown, Singapore, Chinatown, and north of Kampong Glam. Little India is commonly known as ''Tekka'' among the Indian Singaporean community. History Little India was originally a district used by Ethnic groups in Europe, Europeans for cattle trading where Indian people, Indian migrant workers who specialized in cattle rearing found jobs. Downtown MRT Line
The Downtown Line (DTL) is a medium-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore. It runs from Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT station, Bukit Panjang station in the north-west of the country towards Expo MRT station, Expo station in the east via a loop around the Central Area, Singapore, city-centre.
