North Ayrshire Cup
The North Ayrshire Cup, also known as the North Ayrshire League or North Ayrshire League Cup. was a league association football tournament for senior teams in the north of Ayrshire, Scotland. History The North Ayrshire Football Association was formed at a meeting in Kilwinning in April 1894, to provide competition for senior clubs in the north of the county. The clubs agreed to contribute to a trophy, to be called the North Ayrshire Cup, for the following season. Further funds came from a friendly between Queen's Park and a North Ayrshire select at Stevenston. The first two seasons were played as a knockout, and from 1895–96 to 1905–06 as a regular league, finishing with a play-off. With the number of clubs diminishing, its last two seasons were played as a two-legged knockout, and the final instalment remained unfinished. Saltcoats (; Scots: ''Saulcuts'') is a town on the west coast of North Ayrshire, Scotland. The name is derived from the town's earliest industry when salt was harvested from the sea water of the Firth of Clyde, carried out in small cottages along the shore. It is part of the 'Three Towns' conurbation along with Ardrossan and Stevenston and is the third largest town in North Ayrshire. History Origins, 1200s The history of Saltcoats can be traced back to when the monks of Kilwinning Abbey discovered easily accessible coastal coal seams at Saltcoats in the 1200s, it expanded from small scattering of buildings. The coal proved an efficient source of heat for evaporating saltwater for the manufacturing of salt, and by the 1500s, King James V-funded sheds along the shoreline, leading to a successful salt pans industry. Hurlford F
Hurlford is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland, situated on the outskirts of Kilmarnock, the largest and administrative centre of East Ayrshire and East Ayrshire Council. It has a population of 4,968. Hurlford's former names include Whirlford and Hurdleford. The village was named Whirlford as a result of a ford crossing the River Irvine east of Hurlford Cross, near Shawhill. The census locality is called Hurlford and Crookedholm. The village's Blair Park is home to Hurlford United F.C. and many notable footballers have been trained there. Stevenston Thistle F
Stevenston (, ) is a town and parish in North Ayrshire, Scotland. Along with Ardrossan and Saltcoats it is one of the "Three Towns", all of similar size, on the Firth of Clyde coast; the easternmost parts of Stevenston are about from western parts of Kilwinning, the A78 trunk road runs between the settlements. History The town is named after Stephan Loccard or Lockhart, whose father obtained a grant of land from Richard de Morville, Lord of Cunninghame and Constable of Scotland, around 1170. The town is first mentioned in a charter of c. 1240. The Castle Hill near Hullerhirst may have once been the site of a small stone tower. Under a sand mound near Dubbs a stone pavement, coffin, and large boulder were discovered in 1832. Numerous flint tools have been found in the sands of Ardeer.
