The North African Tri Nations is an annual rugby union tournament involving nations from North Africa, organised by Rugby Africa, under hospices of World Rugby. Morocco won this first edition. The 2017 North African Tri Nations was the second annual North African Tri Nations rugby union tournament held between the national rugby union teams of Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. North Africa
North Africa, or Northern Africa is a region encompassing the northern portion of the African continent. There is no singularly accepted scope for the region, and it is sometimes defined as stretching from the Atlantic shores of Mauritania in the west, to Egypt's Suez Canal. The Algerian Rugby Federation (FAR) ; ( ar, الفدرالية الجزائرية للرغبي) is the governing body for rugby union in Algeria. Algeria became a full member of Rugby Africa in December 2016. The federation is responsible for the Algerian national team and the Algerian Rugby Championship. It is in charge of promoting the sport in Algeria, organizes international matches for the national team, and is involved in educating and training players and officials. The Algeria national rugby union team represents Algeria in men's international rugby union. The team is administered by the Algerian rugby Federation (FAR). Morocco National Rugby Union Team
The Morocco national rugby union team are a national sporting side, representing Morocco in rugby union. The team is also known as the Atlas Lions. Morocco is governed by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Rugby. Morocco competes in the Africa Cup annually. The team has won the competition in 2003 and 2005. They usually play their internationals in Casablanca. Morocco has thus far not qualified for a Rugby World Cup, but have participated in the qualifying tournaments since the early 1990s. The Tunisia national rugby union team is a third tier rugby union nation. They first started competing in 1979 and they competed in the African qualification for the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Tunisia also competes annually in the Africa Cup. History Tunisia played their first match on July 1 of 1979 where they faced the Netherlands, losing 12 points to nil. Subsequent matches were played against Yugoslavia, Spain and West Germany. Tunisia continued to play these sides throughout the early 1980s.
