Norris Stevenson
Norris R. Stevenson (October 27, 1939 – March 3, 2012) was an American fullback in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the BC Lions. He played college football at the University of Missouri. He was selected in eleventh round of the 1961 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. Early years Stevenson attended Vashon High School. He was the first African-American to receive a football scholarship from the University of Missouri. As a sophomore, he registered 77 carries for 307 yards (third on the team) and 4 touchdowns. As a junior, he had 60 carries for 267 yards (third on the team) and one receiving touchdown. He became a starter as a senior, as part of a backfield known as the "Fearless Foursome" that also included Mel West, Donnie Smith and Norm Beal. Running Back
A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive handoffs from the quarterback to rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and block. There are usually one or two running backs on the field for a given play, depending on the offensive formation. A running back may be a halfback (in certain contexts also referred to as a "tailback" — see below), a wingback or a fullback. A running back will sometimes be called a "feature back" if he is the team's starting running back. Missouri Sports Hall Of Fame
The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is located in Springfield, Missouri, United States. Founded in 1994 by Springfield businessman John Q. Hammons, the Hall of Fame is housed in a two-story, 32,000-square-foot building. On display are more than 4,000 items of sports memorabilia and exhibits related to Missouri amateur and professional athletics. Various interactive attractions allow visitors to simulate driving a NASCAR race car, stepping into the batters box against a Major League Baseball pitcher, and throwing football passes.
