Normand Duguay
Normand Duguay (born October 17, 1941) is a former Canadian politician, who represented the riding of Duplessis in the National Assembly of Quebec from 1997 to 2003. He was a member of the Parti Québécois. Born in Rivière-au-Tonnerre, Quebec, Duguay was first elected in a by-election in 1997, following the death of Denis Perron. Rivière-au-Tonnerre, Quebec
Rivière-au-Tonnerre is a municipality in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec in Canada. In addition to Riviere-au-Tonnerre itself, the communities within the municipality include Rivière-Pigou, Rivière-aux-Graines, and Sheldrake, all located along the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and accessible via Quebec Route 138. The main and almost exclusive local economic activity is crab fishing. A factory which processes the crab meat sustains the bulk of the population. The eponymous Thunder River (French: ''Riviere au Tonnerre''), which flows through the municipality, has a large series of waterfalls at from its mouth in the Saint Lawrence. These falls with a total drop of about have a roar that reminds one of the noise caused by thunder. Duplessis (provincial Electoral District)
Duplessis is a provincial electoral district in the Côte-Nord region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Sept-Îles, Port-Cartier, Havre-Saint-Pierre, Fermont and the community of Maliotenam. It also includes a single municipality from the Nord-du-Québec region: the Naskapi village municipality of Kawawachikamach (not to be confused with the Naskapi reserved land of the same name, which Duplessis also includes, but is in Côte-Nord). It was created for the 1960 election from parts of the Saguenay provincial electoral district. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained the unorganized territories of Caniapiscau and Lac-Juillet from Ungava electoral district. 2003 Quebec General Election
The 2003 Quebec general election was held on April 14, 2003, to elect members of the National Assembly of Quebec (Canada). The Parti libéral du Québec (PLQ), led by Jean Charest, defeated the incumbent Parti Québécois, led by Premier Bernard Landry. In Champlain there was a tie between PQ candidate Noëlla Champagne and Liberal candidate Pierre-A. Brouillette; although the initial tally was 11,867 to 11,859, a judicial recount produced a tally of 11,852 each. A new election was held on May 20 and was won by Champagne by a margin of 642 votes. The 1998 Quebec general election was held on November 30, 1998, to elect members of the National Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Parti Québécois, led by Premier Lucien Bouchard, won re-election, defeating the Quebec Liberal Party, led by Jean Charest. After the narrow defeat of the PQ's proposal for political independence for Quebec in an economic union with the rest of Canada in the 1995 Quebec referendum, PQ leader Jacques Parizeau resigned. In January 1996, Bouchard left federal politics, where he was leader of the Bloc Québécois in the House of Commons of Canada, to lead the Parti Québécois and become premier. Lorraine Richard
Lorraine Richard (born July 30, 1959 in Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec) is a Quebec politician. She is the current Member of National Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Duplessis in the Côte-Nord region. She represents the Parti Québécois. Richard was a nursing assistant in a health center in Havre St-Pierre for 25 years in which she was also the secretary for the Minganie Health Center's employee union. She was also a school commissioner for 16 years, the Vice-president of the Côte-Nord School Board's Association for five years.
