Normanby Hall
Normanby Hall is a classic English mansion, located near the village of Burton-upon-Stather, north of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. History The present hall was built in 1825–30 to the designs of Robert Smirke for Sir Robert Sheffield (1786–1862). The Sheffield family had lived on the site since 1539 and the family's titles include Dukes of Buckingham and Normanby and Sheffield baronets. It replaced a previous 17th century building. John Sheffield became Duke of Buckingham and Normanby in 1703. He built a fine mansion in London called Buckingham House. His son, the second Duke sold the house to George III and it is now known as Buckingham Palace. The house was extended and altered to designs by Walter Brierley between 1906 and 1908. The Sheffield family moved out of Normanby Hall in 1963. The hall is now in the care of the North Lincolnshire Council. The former 350 acre (1.4 km2) estate around the hall is now a country park. Normanby, Ryedale
Normanby is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. It is about west of Pickering, North Yorkshire, Pickering. It lies on the main road between Malton, North Yorkshire, Malton and Kirkbymoorside. In the old days Normanby had 14 alehouses and was a major stopping point due to its location halfway between Teesside and Humberside. These days Normanby has only one pub and a church. All the houses in Normanby are built along the busy main road. The bridge to the south of the village was built in the mid 18th century and is narrow, so in recent years it has been the scene of many accidents. Normanby Island is a volcanic, , L-shaped and mountainous island, as well as the southernmost island in the D'Entrecasteaux Islands group. It is part of Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. The island has an irregular and elongated shape measuring 73km in length (northwest-southeast). Normanby Island is north-east of East Cape, on the island of New Guinea, separated by Goschen Strait, and is separated by the Dawson Strait (Dobu Passage) from Fergusson Island.
