Norman Lubbock Robinson
Norman Lubbock Robinson (1890-1951) was a photographer, born in Ireland, known for taking historic photographs of Canada's north. The Northwest Territories Archives contains 709 historic photographs he took. Biography Robinson served in the North-West Mounted Police (precursor to the RCMP) when he first moved to Canada. During World War I he served with the 19th Alberta Dragoons, and then with the British Army, Royal Field Artillery. Robinson was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant, and, according to the ''London Gazette'', he was mentioned in dispatches, twice. After he returned to Canada, following the war he served as an Inspector with the Soldiers Settlement Board. In the early 1920s he travelled to the North-West Territories, spending five years working as a trapper, a guide, and later as purser on the steamship '' Mackenzie River''. Norm Robinson
Norman "Latchem" Robinson (17 October 1900 – 18 March 1980) was an Australian professional rugby league footballer, coach, selector and club administrator for the Balmain Tigers club in Sydney and a City vs Country Origin, City, New South Wales state rugby league team, State and Australian Kangaroos, National selector and manager. He also served as NSW and Australian coach in 1948 and 1958 respectively. Playing career Robinson was graded at Balmain Tigers, Balmain in 1922 as a halfback. He was a member of the Balmain Tigers team that won the Premiership in the 1924 NSWRFL season. Robinson was selected in the New South Wales rugby league team between 1925 and 1926, playing a total of 5 games for the Blues. He played in the Maher Cup for Cootamundra in 1928, gaining representative selection for Southern Division in a match against Great Britain. Norman Robinson (18 February 1905 – 27 April 1973) was an Anglican priest. He was educated at Ulverston Grammar School and Liverpool University and began his working life as a teacher of Mathematics at Quarry Bank School, Liverpool Ordained in 1935, he held curacies at Mossley Hill and Southport before a spell at Lancaster Priory. Frank Norman Robinson
Frank Norman Robinson (1911–1997) was an Australian sound recording technician and ornithologist who worked for many years with the CSIRO. He was born in England, studied economics and languages at Cambridge University, joined the British American Tobacco Company and was stationed in Singapore, then part of British Malaya. During the Second World War he was interned by Japanese forces in Sumatra. Following the war he was advised, for health reasons, not to live in the tropics, and in 1949 he settled with his family in Australia. From 1951 to 1960 he was technical secretary with the newly formed CSIRO Wildlife Survey Section. He set up the Division of Wildlife's first sound laboratory 1961-1965 and was instrumental in establishing the CSIRO Wildlife Sound Library. In 1965 he transferred to Western Australia where he retired in 1971. Norman Hollis Robinson (born 1951 in Toomsuba, Lauderdale County, Mississippi) is a former journalist in New Orleans, where he served as reporter for WVUE-TV from 1976 to 1978 and WWL-TV from February 1979 through July 1989, and later news anchor for WDSU-TV Channel 6 (NBC), where he worked in the news department from July 1990 until his retirement in May 2014. Career After service as a musician in the United States Marine Corps, he began his career in broadcast journalism on radio in Southern California and then worked successively in television in Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans prior to being awarded a Nieman Fellowship to Harvard University. The Caulfield Classic, raced as the Neds Classic due to sponsorship and registered as the Norman Robinson Stakes, is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 3 Thoroughbred horse race held under set weights conditions, for horses three years old, run over a distance of 2000 metres. It is held at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia on Caulfield Cup day in October. Prizemoney is A$200,000. History The race was run as a handicap until 1990, now run under set weight conditions. Originally the race was scheduled on the second day of the VATC Spring carnival. The registered name of the race is named after the former VATC Chairman Norman Robinson who was elected to that position in 1942. The MRC increased the prizemoney in 2014 to A$750,000 with a $250,000 bonus to the winner of the Caulfield Guineas or Thousand Guineas if they are able to win both events. Norman Robinson is a South African master of Shotokan karate. He and Stan Schmidt were the first practitioners of Shotokan karate in South Africa and they instigated the establishment of the South African branch of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) in 1965 and popularized the art across the country. In 1970 he was one of the first westerners to be invited into the JKA's famous Instructor Class in the Tokyo Honbu dojo, the invitation having been offered by Masatoshi Nakayama himself. Latterly, he established Japan Karate Shotokai South Africa (now known as Japan Karate Shoto Federation South Africa), having remained loyal to Tetsuhiko Asai after Asai established Japan Karate Shotokai.
