Norman River
The Norman River is a river in the Gulf Country, Queensland, Australia. The river originates in the Gregory Range, southeast of Croydon and flows northwest to the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is joined by three major tributaries, the Carron, Clara and Yappar Rivers. The river flows through Normanton before entering the Gulf of Carpentaria through the major fishing port of Karumba. Carron River (Queensland)
The Carron River is a river in Far North Queensland, Australia. Course and features The river rises at the northern end of the Gregory Range and flows west to the north but roughly parallel with the Gulf Developmental Road until discharging into the Norman River of which it is a tributary near the town of Normanton. It flows thorough many temporary and permanent waterholes through the journey including Rope Hole. The Carron has five tributaries including Rocky Creek, Foote Creek, Tabletop Creek, Ten Mile Creek and Telephone Creek. The traditional owners of the area to the north of the Carron are the Walangama people and to the south are the Kurtjar people. Gulf Plains Important Bird Area
The Gulf Plains Important Bird Area comprises 8868 km2 of the low-lying coastal plains bordering the south-eastern corner of the Gulf of Carpentaria in north-west Queensland, Australia. It was identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because of its importance to global populations of waders and other birds. Description Most of the region is crown land leased for cattle grazing. There are also permanent fishing camps on the major estuaries. The IBA contains saline mudflats, grasslands, freshwater wetlands and woodlands in an area stretching along the coast from west of Burketown to north of the mouth of the Mitchell River. Normanton, Queensland
Normanton is an outback town and coastal Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in the Shire of Carpentaria, Queensland, Australia. At the , the locality of Normanton had a population of 1,391 people, and the town of Normanton had a population of 1,326 people. It is the administrative centre of the Shire of Carpentaria. It has a tropical savanna climate and the main economy of the locality is cattle grazing. The town is one terminus of the isolated Normanton to Croydon railway line, which was built during Western Australian gold rushes, gold rush days in the 1890s. Yappar River
The Yappar River is a river in the Gulf Country region of Far North Queensland, Australia. Course and features The river rises below the Gregory Range near Esmeralda in an area of ephemeral watercourses and stony sandstone ridges lightly vegetated with ''Eucalyptus miniata'', acacia and spinifex on the ridge tops. Further down from the ridges areas of paperbark are found. The river flows generally in a north-westerly direction through Esmeralda Station, floodplain and savannah county, almost parallel with the Clara River, through the channel country until it reaches Yappar Station where it reaches its confluence with the Norman River at the western boundary of Claraville. Clara River
The Clara River is a river in the Gulf Country of northwest Queensland, Australia. The river rises in the Gregory Range near Bellfield and flows in a westerly direction, traversing tropical savanna plains and eventually discharging into the Norman River, south of . From source to mouth, the Clara River is joined by the Borer River, Snowy Creek and Yarraman Creek, and descends over its course.
