Norman Morrell
Norman Morrell (17 July 1912 – 21 December 2000) was a British wrestler. He competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Morrell was a four-time British freestyle wrestling champion, having won the featherweight (63 kg/139 lb) division from 1933 to 1936. He also won national championships in Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling. Morrell became a pro wrestler sometime after the 1936 Olympics. He grew to dislike the disorganised and scandalous state of pro wrestling at the time and became a promoter and trainer in the early 1940s. In October 1943, Morrell arranged a meeting that led to the formation of the British Wrestling Federation (BWF). Although described as a trade union, it intended to promote its own tournaments and champions. Marquess Of Queensberry Rules
The Marquess of Queensberry Rules, also known as Queensberry Rules, are a set of generally accepted rules governing the sport of boxing. Drafted in London in 1865 and published in 1867, they were so named because the 9th Marquess of Queensberry publicly endorsed the code, although they were actually written by a Welsh sportsman, John Graham Chambers, from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. They were the first to mandate the use of gloves in boxing. Other new innovations included each round consisting of three minutes of fighting followed by a minute of rest, and any fighter who went down had to get up unaided within 10 seconds—if he could not he was declared knocked out. The Queensberry Rules, which eventually superseded the London Prize Ring Rules (revised in 1853), are intended for use in both professional and amateur boxing matches, unlike the less-popular American Fair Play Rules, which were strictly intended for amateur matches. Atholl Oakeley
Sir Edward Atholl Oakeley, 7th Baronet, of Shrewsbury (31 May 1900 – January 1987), known under the ring name Atholl Oakeley, was a British professional wrestler and wrestling promoter who was one of the pioneers of professional wrestling in the United Kingdom. He was Britain's first heavyweight all-in wrestling champion, and held the title from 1930 to 1935. He became the European heavyweight champion in 1932.
