Norman L. James
Norman Leslie James (November 29, 1840November 25, 1918) was an American farmer, merchant, and Republican Party (United States), Republican politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate (37th Wisconsin Legislature, 1885, 38th Wisconsin Legislature, 1887) and Wisconsin State Assembly, State Assembly (26th Wisconsin Legislature, 1873, 27th Wisconsin Legislature, 1875), representing Richland County, Wisconsin, Richland County. His brother David James (American politician), David G. James also served in the Wisconsin Senate, representing the same district. Separator (milk)
A separator is a centrifugal device that separates milk into cream and skimmed milk. Separation was commonly performed on farms in the past. Most farmers milked a few cows, usually by hand, and separated milk. Some of the skimmed milk was consumed while the rest was used to feed calves and pigs. Enough cream was saved to make butter, and the excess was sold. Today, milk is separated in industrial dairies. Sufficient cream is returned to the skimmed milk before sale. Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee
Pittsburg Landing is a river landing on the west bank of the Tennessee River in Hardin County, Tennessee. It was named for "Pitts" Tucker who operated a tavern at the site in the years preceding the Civil War. The landing helped connect the west side of the river to a road on the east that went back to Savannah. The landing was home to many families of settlers that migrated from about 1840 to 1860.
