Norma Jean (formerly known as Luti-Kriss) is an American metalcore band from Douglasville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta. Formed in 1997, the band has evolved through various lineup changes, resulting in no original members remaining. To date, Norma Jean has released nine studio albums and received a Grammy Award nomination in 2006 for Grammy Award for Best Recording Package, Best Recording Package for their second album ''O' God, the Aftermath''. The band's name is derived from the real name of actress Marilyn Monroe. The Idea being that the band was forced to change their name from luti kriss, much like Marilyn herself was "forced". The Chariot (band)
The Chariot was an American hardcore punk band from Douglasville, Georgia, that existed from 2003 to 2013. The last lineup consisted of drummer David Kennedy, vocalist and bandleader Josh Scogin, and guitarists Brandon Henderson and Stephen Harrison. The band experienced frequent lineup changes since its inception, with Scogin being the only original member. The band played an abrasive style of metalcore that did not adhere to typical stylings popular among their contemporaries such as melodic/abrasive dynamics and harmonic vocals. They built a reputation around their powerful live performances, with Scogin's lyrics covering topics like materialism, personal struggle, current events, politics, and Christianity, Christian themes. ''Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child'' is the debut studio album by American metalcore band Norma Jean, released on August 13, 2002 by Solid State Records. It is the band's only album to feature bassist Joshua Doolittle and vocalist Josh Scogin, the latter of whom later became the lead vocalist of The Chariot. Background The band previously released a studio album, '' Throwing Myself'', under the name of Luti-Kriss. The band changed their name due to keyboardist Mick Bailey and bassist Josh Swafford leaving and also wanted to go in a different musical direction (the band played a nu metal/metalcore hybrid). According to drummer Daniel Davison, the band got the name Norma Jean from actress Marilyn Monroe, whose real name is Norma Jeane Baker. Travail (band)
Travail was an American, Christian nu metal/metalcore band based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas. Fronted by Matt Leslie, it had an intense following at Club 412, a local church-sponsored lounge and music venue located in southwest Fort Worth. Stylistic comparisons were often drawn between their sound and that of secular rock acts popular at the time such as Korn and Limp Bizkit. The band was signed on Pluto Records and then were picked up by national label Metro One. After releasing their second album, ''Beautiful Loneliness'', on the Metro One label, Travail received a nomination for the 2001 Dove Awards in the Hard Music Recorded Song category. Before touring much under the new label, however, Travail broke up. Their most requested song, "Judge Me" is still a very popular song and the video for "Return" is still a popular video among those who enjoy the rapcore/nu metal genre. ''O' God, the Aftermath'' is the second studio album by American metalcore band Norma Jean and was released on March 1, 2005. Like their previous album ''Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child'', ''O God, the Aftermath'' was released on Solid State Records. This is the first album with vocalist Cory Brandan. Background The album was re-released on March 21, 2006, as a CD/DVD with expanded Grammy-nominated artwork, two hours of extra footage, and "ShaunLuu" as bonus track which was also featured on the ''Masters of Horror'' soundtrack. This track was originally set to be 7 minutes long, but had to be cut short for the soundtrack. On the re-release, on a CD player, if rewind is held down until the display reads -2:20, there is a hidden instrumental song.
