Nordsida Church
Nordsida Church ( no, Nordsida kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Roset, on the northern shore of the Nordfjorden. It is the church for the Nordsida parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, concrete church was built in a long church design in 1973 using plans drawn up by the architect Alf Apalseth. The church seats about 220 people. History During the 1920s, the people on the north side of the Innvik Church parish began asking for their own church on their side of the fjord. Strife and negotiations of this idea carried on for decades. After World War II, political changes ensued in the local municipalities. Stryn Municipality
Stryn is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Nordfjord. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Stryn. The municipality is located along the innermost part of the Nordfjorden. Some of the main villages in Stryn include Loen, Innvik, Utvik, Randabygda, Olden, and Flo. Farming, forestry, fruit growing, animal breeding for furs, small manufacturing industries, tourism, and the service trades provide the main occupations. The wide river Stryneelva enters the village of Stryn from the east after meandering through the fertile Stryn Valley, from the large lake Oppstrynsvatn. Long Church
Church building in Norway began when Christianity was established there around the year 1000. The first buildings may have been post churches erected in the 10th or 11th century, but the evidence is inconclusive. For instance under Urnes Stave Church and Lom Stave Church there are traces of older post churches. Post churches were later replaced by the more durable stave churches. The list of churches in Bjørgvin is a list of the Church of Norway churches in the Diocese of Bjørgvin which includes all of Vestland county in Norway. The list is divided into several sections, one for each deanery (; headed by a provost) in the diocese. Administratively within each deanery, the churches are divided by municipalities each of which has their own church council () and then into parishes () which have their own councils (). Each parish may have one or more local church. Historically, the diocese has had many deaneries, but the number of deaneries has been reduced in recent years. The Laksevåg deanery (created in 1990) in Bergen was dissolved in 2013 and its churches were divided between the Bergen domprosti and the Fana prosti. Per Juvkam
Per Juvkam (1907–2003) was a Norwegian Lutheran Bishop. He was born in 1907 in Sør-Aurdal in Oppland county, Norway. He served as Bishop of the Diocese of Bjørgvin from 1961 to 1977. Juvkam began his career as a priest in Vestre Toten in 1938. He served there until 1950 when he took a new job as the head parish priest for the parish of Vestre Slidre. In 1957, he took a new job as a priest in the Sinsen parish in Oslo. After 3 years on that job, in 1961 he was named the Bishop of the Diocese of Bjørgvin, based in the city of Bergen. He retired in 1971. Juvkam did some writing in the 1970s and 1980s during his retirement. Among his publications are a collection of sermons called ''Høgtidsdagar i Bjørgvin'' from 1977 and a book about the church in Norway ''Folkekirken – visjon og virkelighet'' from 1980. Hornindal Church ( no, Hornindal kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in the municipality of Volda in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Grodås, at the eastern end of the lake Hornindalsvatnet. It is the church for the Hornindal parish which is part of the Søre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. Hornindal
Hornindal is a former municipality in the old Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It existed from 1867 until 1965 and then again from 1977 until 2020. It was located in the traditional district of Nordfjord. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Grodås. The municipality was located at the eastern end of the lake Hornindalsvatnet, the deepest lake in Northern Europe. The rest of the lake lies inside neighboring Eid Municipality. The European route E39 highway runs through Hornindal Municipality as it makes its route along the western coast of Norway.
