Bathory (band)
Bathory was a Swedish extreme metal band formed in Vällingby in March 1983. Named after Hungarian countess Elizabeth Báthory, they are considered pioneers of black metal (alongside Venom, Hellhammer and Mercyful Fate) and Viking metal. The book '' Lords of Chaos'' described Bathory's first four albums as "the blueprint for Scandinavian black metal." The band stopped performing live early on in its career and never toured; frontman, founder and main songwriter Tomas "Quorthon" Forsberg was the sole constant member, and was at times responsible for all instruments. Viking Metal
Viking metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by a lyrical and thematic focus on Norse mythology, Norse religion, Norse paganism, and the Viking Age. Viking metal is quite diverse as a musical style, to the point where some consider it more a cross-genre term than a genre, but it is typically heard as black metal with influences from Nordic folk music. Black Mark Production (founded 1991) is an independent record label originally based in Berlin, later on with offices in Stockholm, Toronto and New York City. Black Mark Production today is a worldwide operating business placed in Villa Hammerheart, Bruzaholm, Sweden, that specializes in extreme metal releases. It is perhaps best known for its close connection to Quorthon, leader of the defining black metal band Bathory until his death in 2004. Destroyer Of Worlds (album)
''Destroyer of Worlds'' is the tenth studio album by Swedish extreme metal band Bathory. It was released on 9 October 2001 through Black Mark Production, over five years after the previous album ''Blood on Ice'' (1996), marking the longest period between studio albums by Bathory. Quorthon performs all instruments on this album, similarly to how he did on '' Twilight of the Gods'' and all albums after ''Destroyer of Worlds''. Background The album's title is taken from a famous quote by J. Robert Oppenheimer about the atomic bomb: "I am become death, destroyer of worlds", which was itself quoted from verse 32 of chapter 11 in the Bhagavad Gita, spoken by Vishnu. Stylistically, ''Destroyer of Worlds'' is a cross between the Viking metal of Bathory's 1988–1991 period and the thrash metal style of ''Requiem'' and ''Octagon''. Kristian Wåhlin
Kristian Wåhlin (born 4 December 1971) is a Swedish musician, singer, graphic designer and album cover artist for many bands in the extreme metal scene worldwide. He is often credited under his pseudonym Necrolord. Biography Wåhlin's interest in art began while attending Schillerska Grammar School, a secondary educational institution in central Gothenburg. He has referenced Romantic and Renaissance painters like Caspar David Friedrich, Albrecht Dürer and Hieronymus Bosch as early influences. This interest also coincided with the time in which he studied music. At the age of 17, Wåhlin formed Grotesque (as guitarist) with school friend Tomas Lindberg on vocals, Alf Svensson on guitar, and Tomas Eriksson on drums.
