Nordica (airline)
Nordica, part of the ''Nordic Aviation Group AS'' together with its subsidiary Xfly, was an Estonian charter airline which was the also flag carrier of Estonia from 2016 to 2019, a capacity purchase arrangement provider, headquartered in Tallinn, with its office premises in the vicinity of Tallinn Airport. The company used to operate scheduled flights to Sweden, but those flights ceased in October 2023, and as of October 2023, the airline focused on operations under wet-lease contracts on behalf of other European airlines. Nordica also operated PSOs. The company shut down in November 2024 after negotiations to find a buyer fell through. History Foundation and early years The company was founded on 25 September 2015, subsequent to a decision of the Estonian Government to form a new airline after the liquidation of the previous national carrier, Estonian Air, due to bankruptcy. Nordica is an Italian manufacturing company of winter sports products, focusing on skiing. Based in Giavera del Montello, Nordica is currently a division of Tecnica Group, after it was acquired from Benetton Group, Benetton in 2003. The current range of products include skis, ski boot, boots, ski pole, poles, and accessories such as sportswear (activewear), sportswear, gloves, and bags. History In 1939, after years of experience as traders in hides, the brothers Adriano and Oddone Vaccari founded Nordica in Montebelluna, making casual footwear. In the after-war years Nordica specialised in ski boots, although continuing to supply the market with cross-country ski shoes and climbing boots. Work was still seasonal and the equipment manual. In 1950 the Italian skier Zeno Colò gave his name to a Nordica ski boot and to a revolutionary lining designed by Colmar. Lillian Nordica
Lillian Nordica (December 12, 1857 – May 10, 1914) was an American opera singer who had a major stage career in Europe and her native country. Nordica established herself as one of the foremost dramatic sopranos of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She had a powerful yet flexible voice and the ability to perform an unusually wide range of roles in the German, French and Italian operatic repertoires. Early life and education Lillian Allen Norton was born in 1857 in a small Cape Cod style farmhouse built by her grandfather on a hill in Farmington, Maine. In her youth, Norton is said to have possessed an inherent fondness for music and the sounds of singing birds and running brooks. When she was eight her family moved to Boston, Massachusetts to continue the musical education of her sister Wilhelmina. Wilhelmina died before her 18th birthday. MS Stena Nordica (2000)
''Stena Nordica'' is a ro-pax ferry owned and operated by Stena Line. History ''Stena Nordica'' was originally built ''European Ambassador'' for P&O Irish Sea. She initially entered service between Liverpool and Dublin. Soon after she was used on the new Mostyn - Dublin service. She opened a direct Dublin – Cherbourg route making one round trip at the weekend, with a call to Rosslare outbound in the winter. In 2004, she transferred to Stena Line with P&O's Fleetwood – Larne and Dublin – Mostyn vessels. The Dublin - Mostyn and Dublin - Cherbourg routes were closed following the Stena Line takeover. Following the closure of the Mostyn service, she was sold to Stena Line in 2004. The European Ambassador sailed for Scandinavia and was renamed the Stena Nordica. She entered service between Karlskrona - Gdynia where she increased her capacity significantly. MS Regina Della Pace
MS ''Rigel III'' is a cruiseferry owned by the Greek-based company Ventouris Ferries. She was built in 1979 as MS ''Turella'' by Wärtsilä Turku shipyard, Finland for SF Line for use in Viking Line traffic. In 1988 she was sold to Stena Line, becoming MS ''Stena Nordica''. In 1996, she was transferred to Lion Ferry and was renamed MS ''Lion King''. In 1998, she was sold to Tallink and renamed MS ''Fantaasia''. As ''Fantaasia'' she also sailed under charter to Algérie Ferries, Comanav and Kystlink during the years 2005–2008. Following the end of her charter to Kystlink in 2008 the latter company bought her, renaming her MS ''Kongshavn''. After Kystlink was declared bankrupt in late 2008 the ship was laid up until sold to the Croatia-based ferry operator Blue Line International, and operated on their service between Split and Ancona as MS ''Regina della Pace''. The Nordica 16 is a Canadian Trailer sailer, trailerable sailboat, based on the Lynaes 14, a 1820 design by Sweden, Swede Ole Jensen. Production The boat was built by Exe Fibercraft in Canada starting in 1975, with 400 examples completed, but it is now out of production. Design The Nordica 16 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a Fractional rig, fractional sloop rig, a transom-hung rudder and a fixed long keel. It displaces and carries of ballast. The boat has a draft of with the standard full-length keel. The boat is normally fitted with a small outboard motor for docking and maneuvering.
